I haven't worried about what people think for my whole life. I do what I want in life, not what others think I should do.

Someone said to me when I turned 18 something along the lines of; “as you get older you will start to relate less to spongebob and more to squidward” which made me realise I don’t really care about what anyone else is doing that has no effect on me lol

In Asian culture, you're raised to care very much about what other people think, everything's about "honour" and the "family name". That pressure has messed with my head a lot and I struggle with anxiety daily, but am trying to learn to leave all that behind and not be so hard on myself, like you said, as long you're happy with what you're doing that's all that should matter. Poor Arlo. The young man needs a sieve. That way he can filter out all of those negative onions, and be left only with the delicious gravy and its positive energy. Jokes aside, there are some wonderful lessons here. I work in an industry that is notorious for its workers only really getting feedback when it's negative. And when you do get something positive, it's usually slightly hyperbolic and feels undeserved. For me, I just want to do my job the best I can, not ruin anybody's day, and go home. Every day is a learning day, and with time and experience it's a personal achievement to feel like I've done well with something. On a digressional note, constructive criticism is important regardless of what you do, but most people you give that kind of feedback to will already have been aware of every flaw in their work. If they think you're an authority on the matter they will seek your advice (or will willingly accept it if offered). Moreover, offering unsolicited feedback that opens with "this wasn't the best way to do that" can sting someone's pride, make them defensive, and ultimately far less likely to listen to you and assimilate your tips and tricks. Even if done with the kindest intentions. On a personal level, it can make me feel like the person I'm talking to assumes I'm an idiot, who lacks insight and needs to be guided by the hand. Sometimes I'd rather just be told "you're rubbish, get better", because at least then I know they're a butt. I've rambled on a bit here, and I'm sorry! But this is a topic close to my heart, and thank you for bringing it up!
