People laugh at this and have so much negative things to say but to me it’s unbeatable if you are hiking in at a distance. I’ve carried the climbers for years and went from a 20 pound climber down to one sticking that sits around 5 pounds. Taking 15 pounds off of your back and being able to hunt any tree is huge to me but I get it from the outside looking in it’s expensive to get into and it comes with a learning curve. No going back for me personally.. Great video!

Saddle hunting is the best. Every video makes it look more complicated than it really is. I managed to safely get up a tree to 15 feet on my first attempt after unboxing the rig and it took me minutes. Went out this morning at 5:16 and was in the tree chilling at 5:24. Pretty fun stuff and there is nothing like leaning out over the saddle platform taking shots. It feels awesome!!

Very good instructions. I use a similar setup. I don't usually give advice, however, the only issue I saw is that I would attached the tether before leaving the ground. I learned this lesson the hard way. Last deer hunt in Georgia, I was climbing up to my first setup off the ground. Had muddy wet boots and slipped off the platform as I went to stand up. I was only 4-5 off the ground so no issue with the height. However, when I slipped I fell back to the ground and jabbed the end of the top platform into my ribs. Thankfully, I didn't break anything just really bad bruise to my lower left rib cage. It took almost 4-months before I didn't have any pain when turning or laying down. Now I don't leave the ground without being tethered. I coming from years of rock climbing and knew better, than to not be roped in, I was just in a hurry. Just wanted to share. Great job demonstrating.

Love the video! 2 things I do differently are putting a giant gear tie on the stick for a higher handle makes it easier to grab. 2nd, wind your paracord up using the figure 8 method over your thumb and pinky!😊

I just started hunting again this season. Started halfway through. I’m more interested in saddle than a regular tree stand just for the versatility of it and ease of moving from tree to tree. I’m not good with ropes and all that so I’m gonna need some practice before next season

Couple things. One, you need to get rid of the carabiner you're using on your tether. They are NOT designed to be side loaded and could be dangerous. You do side load that thing in this situation. A quick link can take side load and is superior for this application. The other thing I will say is that you need to move the tether up after after step up or close to it. A fall on 3-4ft of slack like you're doing can be fatal or at best hurt you badly. Me personally, I use my linemans as well on the climb and keep as much slack out of it as I can. This serves two purposes. One, it is easier getting up an aider with the help of the linemans rope and allows me to move my tether up as I go while having some stability added by the linemans. The second thing is the fall factor. If something goes sideways and I slip, the linemans is going to immediately put me into the tree/stick, then I may go down the tree till the tether catches me. This at least minimizes any type of free fall on a slack tether.

I use a LW assault with an aider and 3 sticks I can get up a tree in 4-5 minutes 18 feet up in any tree like the saddle but the LW seems so much quieter than this saddle presentation. One clank of that buckle where I hunt and the deer are gone, he did it several times. But 2 miles with the assault hiking in is getting old, I’m torn between this or a LWCG set up, this saddle one step method seems super loud to me

You've got me at some point wanting to give one sticking a serious go.

I have a set of rapid rails and a millinum hang on stand. They pack together with no sound together they weigh 21 pounds. I put a gameplan back packing system on them.even in my mid 50s I can pack them for a couple miles. I can reach 25ft and hang the stand within 5 minutes. You can sit all day and even kick back and take a nap. And don't have to wear knee pads. I haven't seen anything great about saddle hunting

I have a Cesso Tree Lounge climber, but im looking for something that wont damage bark on trees so i can hunt WMAs. No damage to trees is one of the rules and the climber digs into the bark.

I really don't understand what the purpose of 1 sticking is. Like is it more about because you want to do it, or is it actually faster and quieter than carrying 2 othe sticks with a few aiders?

I'd like to see how to perform weak side shots. Most commonly I see people stand on the platform and reach through the rope. It seems like with the angled one stick platform it would be difficult to pull that shot off.

Nice demonstration, my friends think it's too much work to one stick, but compared to using a climber it's the most chill and relax climb ever. Never sweating, always safe, it only looks hard. It's hard to go back to multi-sticking after one sticking imo, I just can't see the point. I use a separate stick and platform and 2 moves after the initial ground move is just over 19 feet for me with a 3 step aider, but like you said I never use the third step except off the ground. Question though, are you using a carabiner on your tether? I was always told to use a quick link due to cross loading concerns. I get tired of screwing and unscrewing it though, how safe is it to use an auto locking carabiner?

You should tie the climbing stick to you in case you drop it 15 ft up so you can save yourself.

Carabiners are not designed to be side loaded. Please consider switching to a tri link or d link to attach your repel rope.

Not a bad climb sir! I’d encourage you to try and be in the habit of moving your tether up with you with every step you take. It’ll help minimize the slack in your line just in case of worst case scenario. Good luck this season! 👊🏽

I came up with an easier, quieter, and safer way. If you're interested, I made a video simple titled (ONE STICKING). You are really good at it, but if that stick suddenly slips a bit resettles at the wrong moment. Well, this would just make it even better! Hope you like it.

Watching this after doing lots of saddle hunting research and video watching. Sitting here wondering how to further lighten my pack by eliminating climbing sticks - looking for another public land option. Here it is! The comments are just bizarre though - I guess many of these commenters don't know what saddle hunting is for starters so this whole setup looks foreign and unsafe to them. Yeah some techniques could have been executed differently but overall this is basically a fail-proof system when it comes to safety.

The only common sense thing I recommend is wear all black to cover your upper body considering the inside of the blind is black and dont open unnecessary windows to silhouette yourself. Other then that, spray some water proof spray on the seams and roof. Dont forget your comfy chair, happy hunting.

To me saddle hunting has become the new crossfit of hunting. "Everyone look at me!" This guys is in great shape, what is he saving maybe 5 pounds from carrying a light mobile stand and 3 sticks, to hang off the side of a tree by a rope after doing all that to get up there and back down? and thats only if you make it up or down without dropping that 1 stick. no thanks
