I'm on the verge of tears trying to open a tostitos chunky salsa jar at 3 AM

The best way to open a jar (without ruining the lid by bending it) is the turn the jar upside down with the lid on a hard and flat surface (like tile, linoleum, stone counters etc. Not something soft or that can damage like wooden floors). With the jar in both hands smack the lid flat against the hard surface several times with force (don't break the jar). The pressure of the air in the jar will change suddenly as the lid hits the surface and the food inside moves. The lid will pop off easily afterwards. If you get good you just have the hit the lid once on the surface and you can open it. I had to open more than 200 super large pickle jars for volunteer events. Works everytime, even with sticky lids for previously used jam jars.

I use 9mm pistol to open the jar lid.

I tried every one of these, even tried boiling water, but there was just this one jar that was just SO stubborn, and it was only until I broke the actual lid itself that the seal broke. Boy, that was an experience.

The wooden spoon method worked like a charm and it saved me from losing my mind while being terribly hungry.

I’m really grateful for this video. the metal spoon tactic helps me to open the jar easily without exerting that much strength. The only thing i did different was, i place the jar upside down and use the metal spoon to push the trapped air out

I CAN’T OPEN THE JAM. EDIT: OMG I DID IT WITH HOT WATER AND PLASTIC WRAP ...but now my toast is cold.

Or you could use the ancient Asian method of using the clothes you're wearing for better grip

You are a life saver. I have rheumatoid arthritis and sometimes my jar opening aides are not made for certain jars. The spoon tricked worked on my jar of queso blanco I’ve been struggling with for 45 min 😂

Helpful. We made pickles and I couldn’t get the lid open with a rubber circular hand mat made for this, so I tried dishwashing gloves and it worked! Some materials grip better than others. Gratitude!

I tried a combo of these methods for a stubborn pasta sauce jar - I ran it under water for 30 seconds and then started tapping on the side of the jar with a wooden spoon and it popped right off. I am old school. I use an ancient tool called a bottle opener. It was usually found at the end of the can opener that perforated the cans of soda, evaporated milk, etc. before pop tops were invented. This tool was often referred to as a church key. You just use a little upward pull, it pops the seal, then you can open the jar. It is how my mom taught me to do it.
