I loved steam engines ever since I saw one up close in 1957 in New York City when I was three years old. Even at that age, the memory in ingrained in my head. I think it pulled the train my parents took to Cleveland Ohio on the New York Central Water Level Route. I've been subscribed to the Steam Channel for quite awhile.

This is Amazing!! Never seen one in operation like this. The sound is cool. I am watching the machine that built America through all of the1800's. I'm doing so while sitting on my couch with a small computer with a 6 inch screen and holds all of information you could dream up.

I rode one of these scale locos in Castle park, but the one I rode had wider and larger carriages! I even thought she couldn't do it due to weight! I guess you shouldn't underestimate the loco's power by size! Great video as always, Steam Channel.

Amazing how powerful such a small little engine can be (that’s not a slam, just an innocent comment). If a scale down model that small call hull that much weight (notice all the seats?)...now I can see how powerful the full size ones must have been, amazing!

My great uncle (Leon Teft) started "Travel Town" here in Los Angeles at Griffith Park with several friends including Walt Disney, he had been a small scale steam locomotive enthusiast and builder for many years, and had a track in his backyard in North Hollywood, he showed us a working locomotive miniature that was given to him from Walt Disney one day in the early 1960s.

There's a lot more to it than I thought. I wonder how you first learned how to operate a locomotive like that with out somebody sitting at your side to tell you what to do, or how to react to various situations as they occur. Very cool production. I like all the camera angles and clarity. One of my favorite videos I've seen here. Thanks for making it!
@IllinoisTrains1
@IllinoisTrains1 7 жыл бұрын
Every person does it a little differently. Some larger locomotives have tenders that are big enough for 2 people. In that case the instructor sits behind the student and advises them as they go along. Smaller locomotives require a different approach. Either the instructor can walk along the student and give advice or then can ride in a car behind. Personally I walk along the student until I feel the can operate the locomotive adequately. This means managing speed with throttle and brake, plus keeping the water level in check. Then I ride behind for short trips and begin to teach firing the locomotive. Once they have that down, they can go out on there own. Of course I'm no master either and I'm still learning the little idiosyncrasies of locomotive operation, but I'm proficient enough to run successfully by myself for hours at a time.
