Just got a new Scorch X. Surprising that there is *nothing* that I could see on the Pyranha website or in the manual about how to outfit your boat (apart from a note telling you to stick in the foam foot pad that's on it, or even a link to a video like this. I think this covers it, would like your take on the foot blocks. I did see that Wade Harrison has a quick clip of the heel block he put in. Would also be good to get model specific air bag recommendations as well. I know I could wing it, but this is my first Pyranha boat, and first new one, so I'd like to get it right, and make the best of what's in there. So thanks for putting this together, it seems to cover off most of things.

Nice tips. It would be awesome if you could make a short video on flying on airlines with a kayak. Like which airlines are the best to go with that allow them and then other loopholes for companies that don't allow it but disguising it as a surf board or whatever.

I have contacted Pyranha several times about purchasing the complete outfitting pack such as the one you have but have never gotten a response and i live in the US and there isn't any Pyranha dealers near me that I am aware of... any suggestions??

not clear about kneepads and intended use of the foam for that. In addition, there is plenty of room on the side of the thigh behind the fabric pad on the thigh hook, do you fill that with some padding too?. I noticed that pyranha offers 'hooker" extensions to the thigh hooks for 69pounds for a couple of pieces of HDPE, what are your thoughts on that? I just bought a new ripper and the question how to glue those knee pads just puzzled me for a week. I don't like gluing it incorrectly and then make corrective actions. I am pretty sure that creators had some intended use for the foams that should have been in a manual, should not it? As well, you mentioned heel blocks, I could not find much interesting on that in the pyranha blog and you did not post the link that you promised. I love watching your videos!

Do you ever glue the center pillar down? From mine getting squished on roofs and being shouldered lots, It pulls the pillar off to one side, thinking of trying to fix it in place a bit more. Also had a few problems with the back band and the grooved plastic ratchet bits snapping in the past, would be pretty sweet if they came stock with some solid webbing and maybe a stronger join between the strap and the ratchet. I dunno, maybe I just kick with my legs too much!

Just get yourself a pair of Dagger backbands. They have a metal eye and just dont break. You can cut free the double-D rings off the pyranha bands and use them to connect the two dagger bands in the back of your backrest. Works a charm since 3 years for me and i did break the originals at least twice a year before that. Also: try lowering your backrest (you can pull it down with a small strap at the bottom center of the backrest) - that reduces the amount of pressure you put on it while boofing without reducing the snugness of the fit onto your pelvis. It actually improves the sideways agility of your torso as well. As to the compatibility of the ratchets: I'm quite sure its the same supplier, so the parts are interchangeable.

I would try gluing thin shims to your pillar to make it taller and more snug before gluing the pillar down, I glued a few down back in the day when we were melting and squishing boats to make them slicier and change the rocker proflie but it is a huge pain in the ass as you must sand the kayak where you are gluing it or the glue will last about a month before failing and getting the pillar in place with contact glue without touching the other surface is a challenge in itself.

Hey there, I'm quite new to kayaking. I got myself a pyranha machno as well. I was wondering what's the difference when you have the seat in front/center/rear position? How does that affect the control over the boat? Also what's the difference between seat height positions? I still have quite poor control over my boat, so when trying different settings I can't really tell the difference they make...

I wish someone would answer this question regarding seat positions, I cracked my Zen and needed a boat while it was being repaired. I bought a like new but used Machno Large to paddle in meanwhile and wow! I became a paddler or (very lucky) overnight. I can maneuver this boat so much better. The seat was in the middle position and the outfitting was to my liking so I didn’t feel the need to adjust anything. I’ve paddled it about 3 months in it now. Last week for comparison, I switched boats with a friend who also has a Machno Large, but his seat is moved all the way back... and for whatever reason, his boat paddled even better for me. Granted, I haven’t taken his boat down anything other than a few class 3 drops etc. I’m wondering what is the downside or the trade off to moving my seat back that far? I know “something” has to give? Where will it come back to bite me by slamming the seat back in my Machno Large? I’m 5’10” 210lbs. but it’s an athletic build. (if that matters).... Could someone help me understand this?

@@larryadams3674 I have always found that the further back you have your seat it'll allow the bow of your kayak to ride slightly higher out of the water and your stern will sit slightly lower. This'll make it better for carrying your speed over waves and carving across into eddy's etc. The downside - your stern will sit slightly lower in the water and more likely to catch in any holes. I generally paddle a Machno in the middle position unless I'm paddling anything with big waves that I need to carry my speed over rather than plugging the bow when it's further forward. Tbh though, there's so much volume in a Machno I feel it's generally irrelevant of the seat position other than for taller paddlers who need more leg room.

Thanks for the video. I just purchased a Ripper, which I loved the handling of, but is hurting me on the thigh brace. They give me dead legs within minutes on the water because of the back bit of plastic on the brace digging into my thigh. I don't really have abnormally thick legs, pretty normal athletic build. I have dropped my seat as low as possible, padded them out, and moved the braces super far forward, even drilling out an extra hole to squeeze out some room. But, the problem still persists some. Any tips? My next move is to go after the offending bits of plastic with a dremel and hope it doesn't compromise the strength. Your hand is kinda over the offending bit of plastic at 5:13

So much loose floppy outfitting these days, I still prefer custom shaped foam that is glued to the boat and actually fits your body not a bunch of floppy shims to try and make you fit in the boat that you will eventually loose.

I really like Pyrahna boats but the outfitting is lacking in comparison to industry leaders like Dagger. The leg lifters in the Dagger outfitting is next level modern outfitting. I wish Pyrahna would modernize their outfitting to go with their progressive boat designs,
@Senders
@Senders 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks forsharing your thoughts, there are two sides to the story mate. Yes the dagger outfitting is adjustable but it makes their kayaks markedly heavier than ours. One of my biggest wants from a kayak is for it to be light, I will take outfitting that is not quite as "adjustable" to save 3kg any day. Also it's interesting that you like the leg lifter so much! I always found that lifting my legs up would cause me to tip back on the seat and slouch more. I personally do the reverse and lift the back of the seat up to tilt me forwards into a naturally more aggressive position. I agree with you though, new Pyranha outfitting would be really nice. Hopefully soon!

Chris Clark, Buy a piece of foam block, sand it to shape and glue it in, it's not rocket science. All Daggers "next level outfitting" (as you put it) is only making the boat heavier and more junk to break and loose.
