This has some good information. As a note, elodea crispa has been banned in the UK and EU for 5 years now for being invasive. Elodea densa is the substitute for it.

I have had my ranchu and orandas since March this year in an outdoor above ground timber pond. I bought the fish from a fish farm that breeds them outdoors so I am hoping they will be fine over winter. Have just ordered some polycarbonate to cover the pond. I think I will have to upgrade to a pond with a window in spring so that I can watch them next winter :)

Hey, personally I am not a big fan of Pearlscales. The crown pearlscales can look quite nice but they are a variety that I've never been super keen on keeping. Thanks 😄

After you’ve stopped feeding them when it gets below 10 degrees. If you get a warm spell over winter can you feed them for a couple of days?

I wouldn't tend to. If they get hungry, they will nibble at the algae. If temps increase for a few days and then you feed, sometimes the temps can drop suddenly, which could be dangerous for the fish.

Would it be worth putting a polytunnel over the pond in winter ?

Definitely, a poly tunnel would be great on a larger pond. Polycarbonate covers are more practical for smaller systems, but poly tunnels are great too!

would i be able to keep ranchu in an outdoor pond where the water level will have a minimum of 13 degrees celcius?

Yes I would say that should be absolutely fine, if they are slowly taken down to that temperature they should do okay but you will need to monitor them.

No, I would always keep single tailed fish away from Fancy Tail Fish due to speed and competition for food. It definitely can be done, but I would generally advise against it.

Can i keep fantail goldfish in my 52g fish tank outside with 4 big sponge filter with floating plants like hornwort

Yes, that should be absolutely fine. Just need to watch for temperature swings in a glass tank

Make sure the tank isn't in a lot of direct sunlight, you can use polycarbonate covers or insulation like celotex around the panels you wont looking through as well.
