Another situation! ? My cat flicked 3 fish out of my pond and I found them a time later. One floated for awhile and then slowly wiggled alive.. the other two were a little quicker. 8 hours later the two smaller ones seem okay but my one 12cm shubunkin is struggling and laying in the bottom of the pond. What do I do- I added bettahealth to the water to stop any disease. It’s cold outside- 6-12C to I catch the fish and bring it in to a small hospital tank with a bubbler where it’s warm- what else can I do?
@AquaticElementsКүн бұрын
Sorry to hear that! How are the fish doing now? Bringing them in to the warmth will definitely help with the healing process. But you need to do this acclimation very slowly over a week or so. Antibacterial medication and salt should help
@nataliebennett-watt30085 сағат бұрын
@@AquaticElements Thankyou two of the the fish have survived and have some scale and fun damage, my favourite fish who was the mother of them passed away, I bought her into isolation with mild salting and a bubbler in her tank.unfortunately she succumbed to her injuries about 18 hours after. I scoured the Internet but I think that it’s really important to have an escaped fish first aid video.. next time I would pour pond water on her her in a large volume and remove carefully in a direction to assist the scales not coming away I think it was my quick pick up response that pulled the scales off stick to the floor.

🤔 you are wrong actually. The BCB filter basket is hardened clay ( natural kitty litter ) that either has a center core of laterite, other source of gravel type or powder type iron or injected with liquid iron.

Your mistake was you added your sand when the tank was already filled with water. Never do that! Sand first. Then put bowel in the bottom and fill water into that slowly. Having said that I haven't used substrate now for several years and prefer bare bottom.
@AquaticElements4 күн бұрын
Yes, I would always do it this way. However, I didn't want to fully drain the tank and remove the fish, so this was my only option. Tank is fully clear today, but generally best way is to either wash first or add before water 😁
@justincorfield29844 күн бұрын
I've never seen or heard of them either 😮. I really like those. Good you've got them in now because I know my Arowana just wouldn't tolerate them. He chases anything silver and shiny....
@AquaticElements4 күн бұрын
Yes, the arowana is still king of the tank, but they definitely seem to look after themselves. Thanks 😁

I have used some clarifying drops when I went from black sand to a light colored sand. Within a day, it was crystal clear. As for fish, I vote on some Geophagus!
@AquaticElements8 күн бұрын
Awesome! I think some koi clay would clear it but it's clearing up super fast now. Yes I think a group of geos would be really nice.
@ellaaqua8 күн бұрын
@AquaticElements True, give it some time and extra water changes. Sometimes, we just have to be patient. Not a strong point for me lol. I hope it clears soon! I hope you do get some Geos!
@evil_demandred8 күн бұрын
Great decision! The colours and patterns of your rays pop so much more with the new sand. Definitely worth the elbow grease! Looking forward to seeing the tank once the water has cleared. I don’t know much about types of fish other than goldfish, but maybe the new tankmates could be mid-level swimmers so there’s more action in the middle of the tank? Unless you’re deliberately going for a focus on top and bottom feeders - in which case, ignore me!
@AquaticElements8 күн бұрын
I agree, I think some midwater species would be good to get some nice colour and action. Definitely agree! The new sand has made a world of difference, and the fish are really standing out now!

I know it comes down to personal preference, but I think that albino ray is stunning. For more livestock, I would think about something that swims in mid-column. You have the bottom covered with the sting rays, and the surface with the arowana, but looks like you have room in the middle. Personally, I love the wood, but would like some plants, but your look here is appealing.
@AquaticElements14 күн бұрын
Thank you! I love the albino so much. His pattern is developing so quickly as well! I am thinking about a datnoid or a group of datnoids potentially.
