Awsome video, Imogen. I've been following you for years and I always come back to you for good advice. I watched your video today for good tips for putting together a capsule wardrobe...especially for work, as I've recently begun a different job and am looking for a different look. Your colour choices were clearly really well thought through. Thank you.

Most of our trips are 10, 14 or 21 days in length. I tried packing in a carry on a few times but I soon realized each time that I was missing items when we arrived at our destination and I would have to go out and buy them and every single time I would not have room in my suitcase to pack these items and they would have to go in my backpack adding more weight on my shoulders. Many people cruise now. On a cruise you need day clothes and night clothes. Since we usually sail in warm destinations it’s not possible to wear the same tops twice after sweating in them all day. I did carry on for 1 cruise. I decided I would wash my tops at night but half the time I was wearing damp clothing - because of the humidity the clothes would not completely dry off. On a recent trip to Japan again with a carry on I was not allowed to do one excursion because I did not have running shoes and there was no time to go and buy some. On this excursion for passenger safety they would not allow sandals or slip ons. The reason I did not pack my runners is because I did not have room in my suitcase and had decided to wear my Sketchers walking shoes for comfort and ease of slipping in and out. In your video you did not pack your pjs, your underwear or even a swimsuit. I also find it necessary to always pack a rain jacket and an umbrella. If it rains I still want to be able to go out an explore and not have to go shopping for one or the other and then worry if it will fit in my suitcase. What kind of purse to you bring? I usually travel with a few small purses and choose which one is best for our day or night activities because a backpack is not always necessary. For me it looks like you are packing more for a work convention than a holiday. I agree that matching is a good idea. It does make it easier. I tend to pack two wardrobe - one for day and one for night. I am always amazed when I see traveller’s get on the plane with a carry on suitcase, a huge bag and an equally big purse. After doing this a few times I realized it is so much better for me to pack in a 25 inch suitcase and check my bag at the airport. I am now hands free when I walk to my gate, I don’t have to worry about dragging luggage with me every time I use the restroom and I don’t struggle with bags when I line up to buy coffee or food. I love your video and KZfaq is full of videos of people showing us how to pack in a carry on. I just want the viewers to realize that it’s not always possible to pack in a carry on and not to be ashamed or feel bad if they travel with a bigger suitcase. You show people how to put together a capsule wardrobe for traveling and that’s good but many items are missing to complete your suitcase making it hard in the end to pack it all in a carry on. When you pack, it is very important to keep in mind your destination. If it’s work related you might need less clothing but if it’s for a holiday you might need more clothes especially if you are traveling with a group with many planned activities. Don’t try to squeeze it all in a carry on :)

This formula is fantastic and even though I don’t travel much, would make an outfit choice in the wardrobe so much easier for me. I have a lot of ‘orphan’ pieces.❤

I went to Europe last year for thirty days with just a carry on bag following this formula. Being Summer did make it easier but nonetheless it worked very well. There were even clothes I didn't wear!

Wouldn't the jackets get very wrinkled packed like that? Do you touch up with an iron at the hotel? Great video!

That is what I actually do Imogen...I have my clothes on hangers...one bottom and two tops per hanger...and they go in ones side of my port...bundle method. I pack my husbands in a combination of fold and konmarie methods. I have two modest four compartment toiletry bags for small travel collections...toiletries, make-up, hair, dental, medical, supplements, first aid, receipt storage, digital chargers, power adapters etc....unpacking consists of grabbing the hangers, giving the clothes a shake, putting them in the cupboard, and taking the two toiletry bags to the bathroom and putting them on hooks or rails. My undies, shoes and other ephemera usually stay in my port. I pack for a week whether I am going for a week or a month and my formula is a loosely 8:5:3:2:1. Eight: sets of undies; camis; hankies. Five: bottoms. Three pair of shoes; colours. Two: seasonal items coats/cardigans; togs/sarongs; tops per bottom; scarves. One dress; complete set of jewellery; checked bag [13-18kg]; tote for cabin/day bag [4-7kg]. I'd love to do 1x7kg bag travel as shown here and as my husband does. I did try but it was a struggle because I always travel with Just'in Case so I gave up. No room for gifts, purchases or souvenirs.

I forgot to mention my one nighty that is a maxi dress so can be used for day/dinner wear in a pinch.

How ridiculous. You're wearing four pairs of pants 11 times without washing them? As far as the tops go, changing a necklace or scarf is giving your outfit a new look? Are you saying that someone who saw you in that print skirt will never realize they've seen it eleven times before simply because you change the top?

I never said you can't wash them - not sure where you got that idea. This is a very small capsule ideal for travel, and usually when you're travelling, you're not seeing the same person 11 times in a row who is noticing what you're wearing.

@ Andrea Tuckman...I take a few bottoms, mostly white, and re-wear without washing even in the humid tropics...and I wear the same dress to dinner if I am away no more than a week...and if the trip is longer I may take two 'dinner' outfits, three at the most. I only wash outer wear when/if it's essential. After three international and multiple domestic flights I am down from 20-23kg checked bag to 13-18kg and dream of getting even lower. Less is best more is a chore.
