One tip: Put a paint tray into plastic bag and then pour paint on it, that way you never need to clean a paint tray. When finished, just turn the bag the other way around, used paint will be in a bag and your paint tray is clean.

Hi, Can I use a watered down acrylic ceiling paint, like at around 30% added water, as covering layers underneath before putting a final non-diluted layer as the top coat? Will the thinner coats of paint underneath compromise the longevity of the paint job even though the top coat is non-diluted? Let’s say I put the watery paint on a wall to cover it twice and then put a final top coat of non-diluted wall paint. Is that ok?

It will never look exactly like a sprayed job, but you can roll it. Best to use a sponge type roller to get the smoothest finish you can. Do several thin coats

Hi! Do I need to use primer on walls that are already painted, or only on new drywall? And do I need primer on my ceilings (they're already white, but more glossy than the new paint will be, and slightly different shade of white, the one room w/ a new ceiling is primed already), or can I just paint them straightaway? And for the edges between walls and ceilings (we're doing the ceilings first), am I better off using a brush carefully, or tape once the ceiling is dry? I don't know exactly what I'm doing, but I can't afford to have this done, and my house was trashed by a hurricane, we're having to fix the whole inside already, it's a mess lol. So, I need some tips. Thanks!!
@thinkreno
@thinkreno Жыл бұрын
As long as the old paint is dry and clean, you can just paint read over it without primer. And if I am painting, both the ceiling and the walls, I always paint the ceiling first. When doing the edges on the ceiling, it’s OK to get it on the walls, and then when you paint the walls, just use a brush carefully for the edges. It’s hard to tape off the ceiling since most of the time there’s some texture to it.

Any primer will do but for the ceiling paint it’s worth paying extra for “ultra hide” paint. It’ll hide all the streaking that most ceiling paints leave

I’ve heard on other channels to paint sideways or perpendicular to the direction that the sun shines through the window to avoid being able to see any lines left in the direction that the sun shines in. As if you’d be able to see the stripes if looking at the window and they’d be coming towards you easier to see than if they are moving horizontally from your view towards the window that has light…??? I am really confused because I’ve watched about 12 videos and it seems to be an even split 50/50 on which way is best to paint when you have a window that sun shines in through… Please clarify if possible thank you I appreciate the great content!
@thinkreno
@thinkreno 2 жыл бұрын
For my last coat I always go in a pattern where I roll away from the window light source, then back toward the window. Going the other way I find you can see the ridges left in the paint from the roller when the light shines across the room

Thanks for sharing. Question. If walls are already painted. Do you need to cover walls and windows with plastic to avoid splatter on them? Please advise.

Do I need to prime first before painting on existing ceiling paint that’s 10 years old? Any particular brand of paint I need to use? Would it look patchy if I like to paint only a section that is not part of a dome shaped ceiliing?
@thinkreno
@thinkreno 2 жыл бұрын
No need to prime over an already painted ceiling. If you have a piece of drywall or wood with the old paint colour on it, any paint store can scan it and match the colour. Otherwise it is tricky to try to paint only one area and have it look the same as the rest. I use a good quality flat white paint for ceilings. Different stores carry different brands, but I stay away from the cheaper paint. Usually they don’t cover well or hide imperfections well
@KumarKumar-kx4ct
@KumarKumar-kx4ct 2 жыл бұрын
@@thinkreno Thank you !!this is very helpful, after recently patching and painting a section of ceiling, it looks patchy, the ceiling is originally white and we painted white on the affected area. Is it still required in store to color match even if the paint color is white? I am little confused now whether to paint the entire. Ceiling or just the patch with an exactly matching color?
@thinkreno
@thinkreno 2 жыл бұрын
If you’re happy with it, then I’d just leave it. If you’d like the white paint to match perfectly over the area you fixed, you either need to colour match it or paint the whole ceiling. If you’re painting the whole ceiling, no need to colour match. You can go with any shade of white you like.

The best tip I can give you is don’t cheap out on the paint. Makes a huge difference. You can put 10 coats of crappy ceiling paint on any direction you like and it’ll never look good.
