Great video again, thanks Phil 👍 I thought i'd have to replace my aging white (yellowish) radiators, as painting rads with white gloss years ago they looked crap. This paint is amazing! 🙂 The first coat is a bit of a pain to apply very slippy, even after scotching the whole surface and wiping down with a tack rag. but the second and third coats go on much easier and leave a great even finish just using a 2" purdy monarch. I got the dark grey satin MSP from brewers, missus loves the colour 😊

I never paint rads with a brush anymore not even if a single rad.. I spray them every time.. doesn’t take long and better finish than brushing (IMO).. I fall asleep using a brush on rads 😂👍

When I paint rads I like to paint the above and below horizontal sections first half way and finish off with vertical strokes lightly tickling the tops and bottoms so you can’t see any horizontal brush strokes so it all blends in and evens out nice. Just a technique I learnt myself after painting many rads over the years.

Nice one Phil..a far better alternative to oil...which stinks for a while after when you put the heating on, even if they have been dry for a while. I used to buy a litre of oil based eggy in a colour to match the wall...but what a waste of money for a few brushfulls. Ive been using standard water based gloss on them for years without a problem, but a msp is a safer option 👍

On site yrs ago we always used just oilbased paint, Dulux, Crown etc,undercoat & gloss, never any issues , i have even used waterbased recently & again no issues, i return to some clients yrs later & i check it's holding up & it looks fine no cracking etc from heat, tbh i recommend to most now to just get rad covers as there so cheap & rads are uglies that i always tell clients to hide, can camouflage in with wall colour in the right paint but yes hide the uglies & highlight the nice features in the house recesses moldings fireplaces etc

I remember back in the day as a young apprentice, we used to paint these rads in oils while hot, boy did they stink and make your eyes run. LoL - Always took the plastic caps off just to give a little more room to get the brush in. The knuckle at the back was a prime place for dust to collect and if not removed, got into the paint and brush making a terrible mess.

The fins on the back of the rad are called convectors. They pull cold air in from the bottom and push warm air through the top by convection. I had a big massive one to do on the job I'm on at the moment so i broke out the Graco! 👍
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Жыл бұрын
I thought they were for adding a greater surface area for the radiator to conduct the heat fom the main part of the radiator into them to radiate the heat better? YOU like the hvlp spray video on radiators coming soon then :D
@AspireDecorating
@AspireDecorating Жыл бұрын
@Phil Beckwith The Professional Painter & Decorator You aren't wrong in what you're saying. Air inside the convector is indeed warmed by the radiator itself. As the warm air rises through the convector, cold air will move in from the bottom to replace it and so the whole process will begin again. Every day's a school day!

I have a Q,…. when you prepped the rad prior to painting how many odd socks & G string knickers did you find in the fins at the back ?.. please be colour specific ie…. 1 grey sock, 2 white (odd), 1 black sock,…. 3 black lace G strings, 1 red G string & 1 tiger stripes thong. ..Then we need to know which 1 you sniffed 1st, which 1 you stole & most importantly which 1 your wearing now ???
