To get the stripes on the shoulders 100% even you can use the same width tape as a spacer, this also allows you to get the stripes perfectly perpendicular

“I’m kind of like doing them too well for what’s necessary” says Mr Richard Grey like everything he does isn’t done far too well for what’s necessary 😂

Listening to your thoughts and tips as you free handed the frames was a treat. The level of thought you’re giving to finish following varnishing is such a treat.

Thank you doing these. I find it so inspiring to watch a painter of your level to just sit down, show all the steps and talk through them. Awesome!

Hi Richard! Aside from the obvious value in all your videos, I can't help but wonder about the treatment you do to your paints in the wet palette. Is there a certain compound or additive that you add to give the paint that texture? they have perfect coverage but with a strange appearance. Thanks in advance

You should try O'Keefes hand cream, Richard. My son has terrible excema all over his body. He uses O'Keefes on his hands and Cocoa butter cream on the rest of his body, it really helps with the condition.

What brush size were you using for the flames? I’ve tried similar freehand with a W&N size 0 and the paint was constantly drying on the bristles of the brush.

So I've seen your grimdark Ultramarine and Imperial Fist... are you planning on doing a grimdark Tyranid in the same stippling bade coat?

You should try Monument Hobby Copper paint, it's gorgeous. Much better than that Citadel paint.

On your previous Warmaster you used water based oil paints; do you have a preference?

I've always thought that about Mechanicum equipment, they essentially see their walkers as gods, I don't think they'd let them get all that rusty. Plus, isn't a large majority of their armour made from Ceramite? I wouldn't expect Ceramite to rust, given, based solely on the name, it contains Ceramic?

you are completely right., its ''overpainting'' something.. it happens to pretty much all the excellent painters.
@madMARTYNmarsh1981

@@redsampler2017 you're probably right. Do you see it as a positive thing or negative? For me it depends on the style they paint in; I've seen one great painter that painted a grimdark miniature so dark that most of the details had disappeared, even to the naked eye. When it goes that far I think they're ruining their work.

@@madMARTYNmarsh1981 personally i don,t like it. perfectionism is a good thing, only for those that aren,t affected much by it, because its never perfect enough and therefore always leaves a bitter taste in that persons head. other people see it and try to do it themselves, but mostly overdo it. with enormous caked on mud slurry be put on tracks too much pigments and rust on the exhaustpipes while the rest of the armour is squeeky clean without so much as a bullet hole.. either make it wartorn or make it look like its on its way to battle and keep that consistent throughout the army. as no techmarine/techpriest/mechanicum priest would ever allow it to go that far. if one knows the lore then they know that mechanicum litterally blesses, annoints,praises the omnissiah every part and is also ritually put in place.. no spot of rust would ever be allowed, be it with paint or oily ragg. but too each his own.

I completely agree, the only way i can justify some of it is by saying that its been in a protracted campaign or battle, that the environment was all encompassing despite the titans shields and so on .... Coming from an engineer background on subs, dealing with a lot of metal and painted surfaces, their painting isnt always wholly realistic but they do incorporate certain real effects so thats nice to see. overall the painting is more for catching the eye than any "real world" visual.

i liked your video and i appreciate your input. however, if your video is long, you'll attract more attention from the commercial gremlins. i don't know what the metric is but i got 5 commercial breaks trying to pile through your original message.

I do not like the feet: so much dirt is completely out of scale for what this thing should be. Dust and dirt are heavy and don't rise so high in the air.

The flames being "inverted" in color is irrelevant. They also aren't real flames, but just a warpaint pattern that some faction uses. Like the logo on a football uniform; not meant to be actual flames.
