HOW TO PAINT AND INSTALL FLARES ON YOUR VAN

In this episode we walk you through all the steps you'll need to take in order to install your very own flares from Flarespace.
We ended up going with their regular sized flares along with sliding windows on each side.

You can start off by painting the flares yourself or taking it to a professional to match your vehicle. We went with the DIY method.

Then it's time to cut some holes in your van. Make sure to grab the necessary tools and materials before you start!

The next steps are straight forward. Mark your cut lines, drill several entry holes for your jigsaw blade, and start cutting. It's good to have a helping hand during this process.
Once you have your openings, make sure to go back through, file down your edges, cover them with a primer, and properly prep your van and flares for sealant.
You can then apply your sealant, pop your flares in place, and tape them down. Allow for 30 hours of cure time before moving your vehicle!
Finally it's time to reinforce your seems with more sealant and install your windows.
Give your flares a water test and if you don't find any leaks, you're good to go!

I can't tell you how many tutorials that I've watched that have tons of great information, but I can't stay focused because of how boring they can be. I try to find a happy balance between info and fun so I hope more people tune in and can appreciate it haha.

I was hoping that the finish on the inside would look a little better than it did at the end. Do you have plans for putting some kind of finish on the inside yourselves? And if so what will the finish be ? I love that you two can work together so well.

Yeah for now we've left the inside unfinished since we aren't too sure on what we want to do. I know Flarespace offers a finished insert, but I think we'll end up making something ourselves and doing some sort of upholstery. I'm just trying to think of a good fabric that isn't going to cling on to all the pet hair we're going to have in there. And maybe something that a cat wouldn't use as a scratch post just in case we end up with another little guy in there at some point.

I was so happy to see you in full protective gear! Past videos sawing things for eg with no safety goggles gave me such anxiety. So I was pumped and then there was the knife throw😂You know how to keep me on edge (ohhh bad pun) but such a safety improvement! The flares also look great! Btw, maybe I’m wrong but would it help to have #van build #custom van build #van build from scratch (you get the idea!) in every video so it pops up in every possible search on the subject? If I’m wrong and those hashtags do nothing to bring people here I apologize and boy do I sound like a mother😖and not the cool kind.

Hi both, loving your video's and build!, will you be adding sound deadening and installation into the flare space, if so what the space gain compared to time and money spent once the the installation is added?

We've been debating on how we will finish the interior of the flares. We don't have any space to spare so if we do insulate it won't be with anything thick.

How do these flares perform thermally? I feel that although you are gaining some extra width you are making your van colder in the winter.

I have yet to really put that to the test. We're still debating on how we're going to "finish" the interior of the flare, so we shall see how they end up holding up in the colder temps.

Surprised flares aren't attached with screws and adhesive and then sealed, would worry it's not strong enough.

It's plenty strong. It's bonded to the vehicle just like a windshield is.

You could, but it isn't necessary. It's the same concept as applying a windshield to your vehicle and they don't use bolts for that.

Yes that's true, but we already converted a promaster. We have a full build series on it too, so our second venture was converting a sprinter and trying something new.
