How to Paint - Brass NMM

Күн бұрынThis is definetly one of the hard ones, Brass is not really a single metal, Brass is an spectrum and its something that is very difficult to paint because it can be very different depending on the alloy.
I chose a very particular tone that is different enough to my Gold recipe, so that is feels unique.

Looks like the start of a full army of marines with quartered armour in NMM black and brass. The veteran sergeants will all have NMM red helmets. No blue anywhere. :D

Thanks, I basically spent about 1.5 years making jewelry out of brass for the jewelry school, so I was extremely picky about this one. I'm happy with the tone and I'm glad other think the same

This tutorial couldn’t have come at a better time. KZfaq has so few videos on NMM brass and you published this one the week before I began work on a brass dragon for my brother’s D&D campaign. I’ve watched this at least 3 times now. Thank you!

I am always sceptical towards NNM but this new series (white, black, and now brass) really makes me not just want to try but actually do it myself. Thank you for sharing and hope to see more (maybe copper next time? weathered as well :D ).

This is such a good tutorial and it gets a beautiful result! I ordered an artist proof mcfarlane space marine that I want to paint as a Salamander, and I'll probably go with this method to get some brass trim

That black and brass nmm looks really good. I was just talking with a bud about doing Archaon and 12 bros for AOS, and this is REALLY tempting me to sell all the random chaos and order stuff I have in various stages of painting to give me a project I can really focus on and actually achieve results like this

I feel like the legs are pretty easy to highlight, but I really struggle with where to place the NMM shadows and highlights on areas like the chest where it runs down underneath the armpit towards the hip.

You have to follow the same strip of Highlight as in the chest. Just think of the four sources of light and follow them. You can take a look at the work of Gareth Nicholas on Space Marines to see where he places lights and Shadows

I'm shocked how good that comes out. I was thinking he's about half way through blending that leg, then you just started highlighting. Makes me think I've been looking for too perfect of a blend when I've tried and always give up. How long did that leg alone take you?

That leg, the same as the black one was one painting session. No idea on time though. And yes, as the great Banshee says: F*ck Blending. People obsess over smooth blends and forgets about what's most important, LIGHT, light is everything. If you get the light well, the blending is just the icing on the cake but by no means a must.

Hey, Juan. Do you have any tips for painting at high altitudes in a very dry climate? My paints seem to dry out too fast and adding water seems to make them dry out even faster.

Are you using a wet palette? You can also get retarder medium to increase dry time.

Use a wet palette, and a bigger brush, that helps massively. If the issue persists, you might want to look into mixing a a bit of retarder medium into your paints.
