Thanks for giving it a watch mate. The sepia glaze is a great finishing touch, as it just adds that bit of warmth to the browns snd makes it feel more like leather Look forward to seeing how you get on 👍🏻

Battle Games in Middle Earth thank you. I’m still learning the ropes myself. This is only the 5th video I’ve ever done so it’s not as polished as I want yet. I’ve just got my camera on an adjustable arm fixed to my desk and pointed close up to my hands. It’s still awkward for me painting on camera but I’m getting better.

Yeah, I’m forever getting my hands in shot or moving the whole thing out of shot and ruining the take 🤣 Camera wise, I’m using the Nikon DSLR I use for my static photos. It’s not ideal for video at all really but for now it seem to be OK for a basic HD level. Ideally I’d like a 4K camera so I can crop in and tidy things in the edit. Need a LOT more subscribers before then though 🤣

What brushes do you use? I got the set from Games Workshop but the bristles aren't amazing and have frayed a lot after 1 use

I like to use kolinsky sable bristle brushes. I find that if you clean them after each session with some brush soap they last you years. Currently I'm using Artis Opus series S brushes, they hold a sharp point and have a nice weight and feel. You can even get them in a lovely case with soap included, which is great for keeping them safe and transporting them etc bit.ly/3shSW3G

James Rowell ah, I just use a touch of water to make it go through my airbrush. The trick is you need to leave it for 24 hours to ensure it fully cures. Then you’ll find it’s impossible to rub off.

Hello, great tutorial for a beginner like me! I'm trying to paint a black horse for my rohan cavalry, i can paint the base and layered coat well but i'm struggling with the highlights... Mine is too visible, pop up too much or is cartoony.... I don't know if you have any tips on this...

The best way to keep your highlights subtle is to use thin layers of paint, that way they are a little transparent and don't look too bright against the darker under layers. Then, by adding a dark wash at the end it tones everything down again and should make everything look less cartoony. Another reason why things can look a little unnatural is if your highlights arent quite in the right position. A good tip to help learn highlight placement is to paint a layer of clean water over the model so that surface is wet and shiny. Then take a picture of it under a bright lamp. All the areas you want to put highlights will then be very clear by where it's shiny. Let the mini dry and use the pic as a reference for placing the highlights

Strange thing I have like the same highlight than you at 6:39, but after applying a wash I still see the highlights, it is not natural like at 7:04 where all colors are tied together..

@@nicolasdaumalle3329 perhaps you just need to apply another coat of the wash and darken things down a little more? A lot of painting is tweaking and refining things until they look how you want them.

Yes, I’ve tried to focus on the important steps for painting the mini and hopefully made it simple to follow for all levels of painters. More advanced painters may want to add more detail or try non-metallic metal techniques with it. Less experienced painters I think should just work through applying the colours cleanly and smoothly and they’ll be surprised how good a result they can achieve. 🙂
