This quick and simple guide will lead you through the steps I take to paint the earthy green and shiny gold and silver armour for these iconic Lord of the Rings dwarven warriors.

Nice work! I’ve loved these models since they first came out and I think this may have finally inspired me to buy them for no other reason than to paint em up. I’d love to see more Middle Earth content. Cave troll? Some classic Mordor Orcs? Maybe some of the awesome wood elf models?

Such an amazing paint job on an old metal LoTR sculpt. Could you do a tutorial on the new Knights of Dol Amroth, and the new Faramir model when it comes out?

Thank you, much appreciated. 🙂 I have a small Dol Amroth army from a few years back, and I have been meaning to add the new sculpts to their ranks, so that could be a strong possibility for a new video, sure. As for Faramir, I’ll need to wait for him to become available separately, as I don’t really need the new boxset

@@BrushstrokePaintingGuides Nice! What are your thoughts on the recent Middle Earth SBG reveals? Specifically the starter boxes? I think that if they're at the right price point, I'll go for the Mordor box, but we'll see.

@@jamescandlish7097 like you say, it’ll all come down to the price. In terms of the content, I think they look great. If they price them like the 40K / Sigmar start collections boxes, by which I mean a significant discount to buying the minis separately, then I think they’ll be amazing!

They look great. I love the middle earth models would love you to Paint more of them. Maby another dwarf Hero :). Painting 2 models adds to Its value for me!

Very helpfull and great tutorial! I'm thinking of painting my Guards in the near future. First I need to finish my Grim Hammers. I'm curious about your basing, can I ask what materials you used to create the rocks?

Nice one, thanks for watching. I did some grim hammers a few years back, lovely looking minis. For the basing, I use slate chippings. You can get a large sack from garden centres or supermarkets for a couple of pounds and it'll last you a lifetime instagram.com/p/CfgXZzqtF7k/ Because the stone is quite "soft", it's easy to break into smaller pieces by wrapping in a cloth and hitting with a large hammer. It's also soft enough to drill by hand with a pinvice for pinning minis to the bases

Wow great tip! I was thinking of cork or dried bark, but I really like the style of slate chippings. I'm thinking of making a stair between rocks to create a Khazad dum/Moria style base. Not sure which materials to use yet but I will def try the slate! Thanks for the tip!

Slate is brilliant for natural rocks and you can layer it up to build very cool looking bases. If you’re wanting to make steps I would suggest using xps foam. You can carve and shape it and even texture it by pressing the slate into it so that it can match seamlessly

Really glad to hear you found the guide useful. I can’t remember exact timings, but I have painted 15 of these, using the recipes in this video, in a day. If you batch paint so you’re painting as washes are drying etc, you’ll find these are surprisingly quick to paint. It’s the advantage of not having to paint any skin or faces 😉 Let me know how you get on 👍
