How to paint engine bay for CHEAP!

4 жыл бұрынSo I finally decided that I DID want to paint the engine bay in my Nissan 240sx. Took a super DYI approach but got AMAZING results.

omg, i had the same conversation with myself, Mario! LOL! I want to get my classic going fast, but now I'm like "well, I got the engine out, may as well..." so now I'm scouting videos online on how to do this.

FYI, when using a tack cloth you need to unfold it completely then lightly bunch it up a ever so lightly wipe across your panels. You will be surprised how light and fluffy the cloth becomes , never rub to remove debris. If there is a considerable amount of dust or debris then wash the area let dry then tack. With a tack cloth, your supposed too light wipe the surface so it picks up any little specks of dust and dirt. Don’t wipe cause it leave the material that is used in the cloth to attract the dirt. I’ve had the same thing when I first got into painting and the painter told me this. We had to degrease the area but it was all good

We used those tack cloth on wood working projects before stain, don't think they are made for auto paint.

I don’t and it’s held up fine. I normally only use high heat paint for engine and exhaust components.

How did the clear coat hold up now that it's been 2 years? Looking back in hindsight, would you have gone with 2k clear?...

Spray can spraying sucks on the fingers lol. It comes out nice but damn it feels weird for a while

Anybody have a fuel leak in the compartment After all the restore work has been done ? _Qnly to see top coat paint on the fender well bubble up like Aircraft stripper was used ? Primer layers held up, but all top coats didn't Can someone school me a rattle can product to use that wont do this- (if there;s engine issues in the future). thanks ahead of time.....back to sanding now.

What grits did you sand with?

I used 400 grit before primer, then 600 on the primer before the base coat
