Really helpful thank you. Couple of Photoshop shortcuts I used... a) Save the grid layer to use on future images (so you never have to do it again), b) Do the long side first, create a copy of the lines layer then rotate 90 degrees for the short side. ...also depends how much you know about PS but I created an Action to copy the line and move 1 inch down to save a bit more time. I'm very lazy 😄

Very helpful Tim. There is a good app called ArtGrid that you can use on your phone. You can add a grid to a photo any ratio you like and then print it out. You most probably know about it. Looking forward to your future videos. Always so helpful. Thank you and Happy New Year

Sir. please, I’m using A3 paper so I want to know if I can use one and half inch and how do I measure the grid I’m using an iPhone so I can’t really get the required app

I find that if I use a T-square ruler, I have a better chance of not getting the marks a little crooked.

Exactly! you can just use a digital device to view the grid photo reference

Might as well paint by numbers. This stuff takes away the challenge of drawing and painting. Just my opinion.😎🇦🇺🦘

Painting is the actual challenge. The grid method is just a tool for people to quickly get a basic sketch onto the canvas. Everyone should learn how to draw, but those who can't or haven't been able to develop the skills well can use this method to make the process easier. Many artists at all skill levels use the grid. I'd say its much better than tracing, or using a projector which are other tools many artists use. The grid method allows people to start to see relationships when sketching, which actually develops their drawing skills. You still have to draw whatever is in the square.

While they have the skill, not everyone has time for free handing, especially when you're trying to produce an accurate large painting. So the grid method gets you painting faster. If someone's trying to learn how to draw, yes, free handing is important. But if you already know how to draw and want to skip that part to get right to painting, why not? Just my opinion.

@@gagnonstudio da Vinci, Escher, Van Gogh and Durer all used the grid method…not with photoshop of course, the renaissance artists used wires and strings over a frame to act as a grid to real life subjects
