Excellent work, I really like how this trooper looks and it's a nice change from just tan and olive drab green. These new Guard figures are great, I want to paint up some myself!

I had a vague memory of a particular GI Joe camo scheme that I'm going to tweak for my guard! Very rich green with red stripes - perfect for deathworlds filled with polystyrene ball and toothpick forests. Some of the old rogue trader schemes for the land raiders are especially good references. Really excited to get tucked into my box in a week or so!

Camo is a lot of fun, especially on tanks because you don't have to be neat and tidy, historically speaking, in the real world, the camo schemes were field applied in less than ideal conditions by tank crews, not painters, so they were pretty messy! That being said, it's still a load of fun on a line trooper like a guardsman. I don't use camouflage on my guard infantry, but I do for my bloodaxe orks, they all get their own camo pattern on the armour with weird and wonderful colours, slow but fun and I work slowly anyway so it makes very little difference to me

that's a really cool Guard scheme! Thinking of adapting the Swedish M90 pattern for my guardsmen :) In case anyone wants to add a touch of realism to their 40k models it is worth knowing that while an urban type of camo looks cool and can be found on a lot of clothing it is not very practical in our world. A lot of countries have tried to make it work, to make any kind of urban camo work but it ends up doing the opposite of camouflaging. Though maybe it could work a bit better on industrial mega planets!

I think the Swedish M90 camo pattern is a great choice for your IG troopers, I'm partial to the Belgian "jigsaw" camo pattern myself.

@@cultofpaint now we wait for you guys to make a video on how to make a camo that suits a neon party planet! I see a lot of pink, yellow green, light blue, and such being used. that would be a rad camo pattern :P

Very good video, thank you. The colour scheme smacks of WW11 German uniforms but more 'Gamer Friendly' IE SIMPLER ☺ I admire your courage with those oil washes too, but you explain nice and clearly what and how so maybe I'll one day grow a pair and have a go 😆 Finally, yes the new guard miniatures are excellent. I'm currently building a command group this weekend and they go together beautifully if a little weirdly! There rather a lot going on with them for me, I miss the simplicity of the last generation of guard miniatures but heck, I still have a couple of hundred to build yet 😉 Thanks again for a very inspiring video 👍

Thanks for taking the time to comment. With regards to missing the simplcity of the older sculpts, I was nervous about that too. But actually the detail is well defined, and if you paint the majority of stuff the same colour it's not too time consuming!

Interesting. In my experience the Pro Acryl whites and off whites have better, not worse, coverage than Vallejo/AK for example.

Just curious but how do the new figures compare in terms of figure height to the previous plastic Cadians? I have seen articles that the Kasrkins in the new Kill Team set are significantly taller than the standard Cadians and other plastic guardsmen. I am hoping these new figures are not going to look out of place with an existing guards army.

Not sure on size comparison. But there must be 20 years between the sculpts? The new ones have good proportions and look right next to an ork, marine, eldar etc

@@cultofpaint I'm super tempted to go with the classic Cadian 122nd, just to give them a little more visual pop across the table. I hadn't considered your point about too much camo, so that'll definitely be handy going forward.

Lovely drab but interesting scheme! Definitely going to take inspiration for some traitor guard. If you were going to paint a tank to match this scheme which do you think would go best as the main colour, black like the armour or the greens and greys of his camo?

@@cultofpaint have a look at the British Berlin brigade camouflage scheme used on stuff like the Mk10 chieftain tanks and FV 432 APC, white, blue-grey and brown, it would honestly look amazing with this infantry scheme, not easy to apply (been there, done that) but the end result would be far more interesting and eye-catching than black

When you're thinning then for airbrush? Definately. If you haven't noticed these guys think their paints down quite a bit 50%+ for their army painting. I've noticed at that dilution they don't really have that great coverage
