I just realised something, because I am so used to knowing the lore behind everything, for the first time ever I realised that when you said "I am going to be painting...colours of the Kronus Hegemony" I had no idea the point of difference you were making but it made me realise. If new comers to this hobby come across your video and this isn't unique to you, they will have no idea what the official thing looks like and I know making content and having anything from anyone else is always a dicey properistion but maybe have an official miniature artwork or something? Especially if your going to have a point of difference? Just a stray thought and you asked for thoughts on it, smooth as always... Smooth behind... Smooth bu-

It looks fantastic! However, I am confused, why did you prime in black and then again in grey? Why not just prime in chaos black and touch up in grey and carry on? Is it to create matte black or does it lighten the black? I really love the gold and will be using this scheme on my upcoming Votann army just looking for short cuts.

Those Einhyr are chunky! I love the Votann's aesthetic. It's clear to see that the tech they're using has a common ancestor with the Imperium's tech, just branched off into its own thing a long time ago. Black and gold will always work well. That matte black in particular. Allows the gold to shine a little more. The brush sizes are a handy touch. Helps a lot when considering what to use for what kinda detail.

@@BrushstrokePaintingGuides I’ve watch probably every paint thinning video there is. I’ve been having trouble getting the right consistency of paint and the right finish on my model. A lot of channels stress downloading your brush. What I’ve noticed in your videos is that when you paint your base coat, your brush is fully loaded and you just go for it and you still get a smooth coat. One thing that a lot of thinning videos don’t cover is the drying time in between coats. I think I saw a hair dryer in one video of yours, so it would be cool to see have you handle the drying process.

That scale colour is perfect. I always struggled a little with Scale75 paints as they are very thick and need some work to be really good, that put me off when I was newly back knto the hobby, but I think I could be tempted to pick it up for something like this. Really solid work dude.
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides Жыл бұрын
Thanks man Scale colours are beautiful paints. You really should give them another go. I know some people find the a bit off putting being gel based rather than water medium, but they thin down beautifully with some water, and as you can see, they produce such amazingly smooth finishes. If you’re struggling with thinning them, give my paint thinning video a watch, it explains how I know the point to thin to. And it’s exactly the same for S75 paints too kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qah0ibOgs77dhn0.html

@BrushstrokePaintingGuides

No, not at all. I think it’s perfectly normal 🙂 Edge highlighting gives you total control over the end result compared to processes like drybrushing or contrast paints say. I actually find it relaxing and a great way to zone out too.

I really like the color choices that you made, especially the “tacticool” flat black. Reminds me of the original Squat technicians, who wore leather jackets, heavy engineer boots, and sunglasses. I see bits of that in the model, like the heavy-looking boots, large rivets in the knuckle that could be thought of as silver biker rings, and even the squiggly gold embellishments that make me think of the zippers on a biker jacket. I honestly didn’t think about collecting the squats until I saw pictures from this painting guide on your Facebook page.
@longcoat000
@longcoat000 Жыл бұрын
As for the video itself, it was very helpful and easy to follow. The mini is well lit, your speaking cadence was just right (not too fast or slow), good enunciation, and I like that you use single-pots of paint instead of mixing, even if you have to use multiple brands to get the exact color you want. I would have liked to see how you painted the partial face in the helmet, because painting flesh is different from armor plating. There are also some terms you used (like zethyl basecoating) that I didn’t quite understand, but I figured out the basics fairly quickly. I do appreciate the links that you included at the end of the video, which are always helpful. Overall, great job.
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides Жыл бұрын
Thank you. I’m glad my scheme has made you see the new squats in a different way. I wasn’t too keen on the standard GW colours either, so I thought I’d try something a little different and I was pleased with how it turned out. I agree, the black does give the leather biker vibe, I hadn’t thought of that but it does suit that now you mention it. Thanks for watching the vid 👍🏻
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides Жыл бұрын
Thank you, that’s so great to hear. I have put quite a bit of effort into making my videos clear and easy to follow. So it’s good to know it’s working 🙂 Apologies about the reference to zenithal at the start of the video. I appreciate it’s not necessarily something everyone will be familiar with. All it is, is rather than just priming my minis with a single colour, like black or white primer. I do an additional step. So, I prime all over with black and then when that’s dry I apply a second light prime of a light grey but only from above the mini at about 45° all round. This results in all the model’s top surfaces being brighter and lighter than the lower ones. As if it was being lit from above. The reasons I do this are, • to make details easier to see and therefore easier to paint (also shows them on camera easier too) • allows me to see which parts of the mini should be highlighted and which should be in shadow • and lastly, it gives me the option to not apply paints as solid colours but I could if I wanted apply thin glazes of colour which will tint the light and dark primer and actually give highlight and shadow in one step. I didn’t opt for the last option in this video, but if you would like to see what I mean, I did do it in this video for the red armour kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h6p2nqZl1KfMgYU.html Hope that helps Thanks for checking out my channel

@BrushstrokePaintingGuides
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides 6 ай бұрын
So vehicle wise, I would go with majority matte black and use the gold accents sparingly. The black should be so over powering because the highlight will help to break it up and most of the vehicles have a lot of under chassis and tubing details etc which I'd do in my dark silver from this video and that should balance it nicely. Think of it as NASA stuff but with black instead of white Hope that helps. Do let me know how you get on

Thank you, really glad you enjoyed the video. Honestly, I don’t think there really is another black that comes close to the properties S75 black has, because it’s just so matte. I really wouldn’t go with a contrast paint as an alternative. They’re just too satin. Corvus Black could work, with some recess shading of nuln oil. But if you can try to get some of the flat black from S75, you won’t regret it. 👍

Thanks, really glad you like it 👍🏻 For the overalls of the infantry I went for for dark reaper. You want a dark shadowy blue / green basically, which is in keeping with the scheme and just different enough from the black so that it doesn’t all blend in together. For the piping, you can keep it simple and just go eshin grey or you can go strong contrast and introduce the yellow from the GW scheme or anything inbetween really. It’s a detail you can use to make the scheme more personal. Hope that helps I will try and paint up an infantry mini for this scheme as it does seem to be a coke question

Thanks for watching I totally get edging highlighting like this isn’t for everyone. If you wanted a quicker but lower level finish, you could replace with light drybrushing to pick out the edges. Any messy bits can be tidied up with the flat black and still get a good looking result 👍🏻

When you apply an edge highlight would you say you thin the paint down more or less than compared to the base coat consistency?
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides Жыл бұрын
I would say the edge highlight colours are thinned down slightly less. As it doesn’t need to settle smooth over a large surface like the base colours and it helps if it stays in one place. Both are thin enough to flow from the brush like ink from a pen though. Not sure if that really helps I will be doing a video on paint thinning though, as it seems to be people’s most asked question. Very nice tutorial, as usual, and stunning result. However I am confused. Why not prime black and paint the gold areas brown first and then gold? Would you save enormous time like that?
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides Жыл бұрын
Thanks man. Absolutely , priming black would work well for this scheme and the addition of brown before applying the gold would make for less coats of gold being needed to cover the black. The reason I opted for the grey over black priming was for a couple of reasons. The first is it helps bring out details for the camera to try and make it easier for people to follow. So, I now just prime all my minis the same way, often in large batches. And that usually means I’ve primed the mini before I’ve really decided on what colour scheme I’m going to go for. The zenithal grey over black priming enables me free choice on doing glazes over the zenithal to take advantage over that or simply block in solid colours and layer up that way. So for the confusion 👍🏻

Thank you To add wear and damage I would sponge a little rhinox hide onto edges which you want to look worn and then within those random brown splodges I would paint some graphite silver but leaving an outline of the brown showing. This will give the impression of chipping down to bare metal Scuff marks could be done using the dark reaper and Thunderhawk blue too Then if you were to base on a dusty planet surface you could introduce some weathering powder to dirty up the armour that way too

Keep the amazing work going.
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides Жыл бұрын
Thank you. Very good question. And the answer, is as you suspect, in this case the zenithal priming serves no benefit to the final result. So why do it then? Well, I prime all my minis in large batches and usually long before I’ve decided how I’m going to paint them. By priming them all with zenithal gives me the option to go the glazes and contrast paint route should I wish without the hassle of having to set the airbrush up for a couple of minis. It also helps with picking out details for the camera and my aging eyes 😆 The reason I mention it in the video, is simply to be as clear as possible with people, so they know what I’ve done. No need to be sorry for anything. I was wondering if you felt like it was necessary when using regular base coat. On the other hand, I also watched Richard Gray who use a different style and he seems to always start from a black undercoat. Again, great content and great painting, very smooth and very clean 👌

A very reasonable question and the answer is, no, it’s not necessary at all. I apply the zenithal for a couple of reasons. The main one being it prime my minis long before I decide how I’m going to paint them. So by doing the zenithal it keeps my options open to glazes etc. And secondly, having the zenithal helps with picking up details on camera in the videos. What was the point of the zenithal highlight if you are going to hard cover it?
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides Жыл бұрын
Very reasonable question. In this case, the zenithal is only serving to help bring out details on camera. There will be a slight colour tone change between the black primer and grey but nothing noticeable to the eye. I prime all my minis the same way as I do them in batches and I haven’t decided on how I plan to paint them yet. Doing them this way just means it allows me the option of going for glazes over zenithal or solid colours when I come to painting them (usually a few weeks after I’ve primed them) 👍🏻

@BrushstrokePaintingGuides
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides 2 ай бұрын
So, yes. This mini has two primers. Primers are not the same as base coats though, they are only intended as something for the paint to bond to, and stop it rubbing off the mini. The reason for the two, is because I prime my minis in big batches often long before I’ve decided how I’m going to paint them. By adding the light grey zenithal prime it gives me the option to use washes and glazes to colour the mini and not just solid paint colours. Take a look at the chapter on zenithal in this video, it explains it better kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o6d0jLSCtK6dkWw.htmlsi=UPG0JOlQDXCHKQlP In the case of this Votann scheme, there is no need for the light grey zenithal though, as I just went with solid paints. So you’re probably best to just go with a plain black primer Hope that helps 👍

Absolutely, you could achieve the same with a black primer for this scheme. I prime all my minis the same, usually in large batches when I’m still undecided how I’m going to want to paint them. @BrushstrokePaintingGuides
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides Жыл бұрын
You’re right, the zenithal has no bearing on the end result of this paint scheme. The reason this mini has been primed this way is because I prep and prime my minis in large batches, often long before I e decided how I’m going to paint them. By priming with a zenithal highlight it gives me the option to go with either glazes and washes or solid base colours or even a mix of both. It is mentioned in the video just as a matter of fact so people know how it’s been primed. The ideal for this scheme would simply be to prime black and then airbrush the whole mini with the matte black and then carry on from there. Not everyone has an airbrush though, and I do like to show people that smooth finishes can still be achieved by hand 👍🏻

Hegemony is not pronounced homogeny. Those are two different words. The first is domination by cultural inundation. The second is a lack of diversity in arbitrary qualities.
