Nathan, I've been painting and restoring street rods etc..., as well late model damage, graphics, murals. and much more for over 42 years. These type techniques are viable today in various ways, even for body shops with spray booths. Cleaning $300-$750 Spray guns, is a drag, and unprofitable. I'm thrilled to see a young man, like my 19 year old son, that seeks knowledge, researches products, and finds solutions.. Adhesion Promoter has been around since I started restoring panels with SEM dye in the 70's. That is usually missed, much to the chagrin of the owner. All that you do is articulate, unoffensive, and clear. Many could learn a lot about good work ethics lost in the cacophony of lazy and "entitled" youth of today!

Wow super helpful! A plastic trim that runs around my fog lights has been chipping away these past couple of years. I am thinking of painting it w/ your steps mentioned. Rather than taking it in for a paint job or complete replacement of fog lights. Lesson learned... don't buy knock off brand fog lights.

Great advice. Personally I'd suggest moving a little farther upwind of your truck to prevent all that over spray.

Nicely done, only thing I would suggest is wearing gloves from start to finish and DO NOT TOUCH anything after cleaning the substrate with bare hands until last coat is applied, you touched the paint surface before applying the clear, that transfers oil from your hands and can create fish eyes in the final coat. But overall nicely done. And adhesion promoter is the bomb for plastic panels, makes paint stick like dog poop to a wool blanket.

That was spot on , to the point, & just what I needed; & dude, the acoustical jams were lights out!

I just started to paint my cowl and trim on the fun car 2010 R56 Cooper I just got. I used the Dupli primer and Dupli trim and bumper paint. Can't wait to see the results, sick of using the Black Trim solutions and back to black products that work for about 2 hours.

Once dried I recommend applying ceramics to it to keep the finish looking good for years.

Instead of paper towels use a scotchbrite pad, it cleans better and scuff the surface for better paint adhesion. Also engine paint is more expensive and not needed, maybe if you were painting the intake cover or the air system right next to the engine then yeah.

Thanks, Nathan, for the video. The finish looks great, but over time the cowl will need protection from the sun. I usually use Meguiar's Ultimate Plastic Restorer. Do you know if after painting Wipers Cowl, I can use it on painted surface. Also, could you advise how much Dupli-colour engine enamel paint do I need for the cowl on Corolla 10th generation.

Hi Nathan I have a 2014 Ford expedition everything looks great except the trim and bumpers. They’re faded to almost white. They were just factory black. Would this technique work just as well on the front and rear bumpers? Thank you for your very clear instruction video.

Wouldn't that clear Enamel crack under intense Sun or turn yellow. Also why not use Dupli•Color Trim and Bumper Paint? Just curious. Thanks for your reply.

Good video Nate. I have some fender vents to install on my 18 f 150 and want them painted the same color as the mirrors, door handles etc. The black trim paint on the truck has a metallic appearance to it and so far no luck finding any. If u know can u drop me a line?

The Rust-Oleum products are crazy if inhaled and same with a lot of the car spray adhesives or paints. Invest some time and money in a spray mask. You only get one set of lungs!! ;o)

Great job but I would never paint that close to my car, it's a recipe for disaster. You will have paint all over your windows, clear coat, rims, tires, etc 🤦🏼‍♂️ Thanks for sharing 👊
