Thanks! Not all of them got this level of effort. The panel liner is great, best with a dull cote before you use it and clean up with white spirits. Definitely darker than something like nuln oil.

That’s an effective protocol for painting T’au in that colour scheme; good looking end result. One piece of feedback... I know you flash up an image of the paint you are using in the corner of the screen, but often they were difficult to read. It might be a good idea to list the paints you use, in the order you use them, in the dropdown text of the video description. CIT: Ulthuan Grey, VMC: German Grey, etc... Also, I’m curious, what was the glue you used to assemble the mini?
@jasonalwaysreadyyt
@jasonalwaysreadyyt 3 жыл бұрын
that's a valid point, I'll work that into the description. The glue that i used was testors cement for plastic models (red tube). however, i will be changing to tamiya thin cement. the testors is a glue that hardens and the tamiya melts and welds the plastic pieces together. the testors has its place and can provide a very hard connection, but its generally not needed and is more trouble than it is worth sometimes. it tends to run out of the tube (i lose 2-5x out of the tube for every 1x on the model) and also creates filament strings. thanks for watching and the feedback!

Do you recommend any particular brand of mineral spirit for the panel line? Love the vid cant wait to try this out
@jasonalwaysreadyyt
@jasonalwaysreadyyt 3 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure that this is brand independent. In fact, I used hand warmer fluid. I'm guessing lighter fluid will work. Do a test spot for anything that isn't labeled as white spirits 👍and a clear coat before panel lining will improve results

@jasonalwaysreadyyt

@@davidtrainor9569 no problem at all. a clear coat is a clear paint. It can be matte or glossy. It is generally used to protect paint layers from wear, or otherwise isolate paint for a different medium or effect.

One question, I'm starting to paint minis and I'm used to build Gunpla, so I already have different accent colors from Tamiya. For pannel lining the minis, do I need to apply any sort of gloss coat before or the paint will resist the brushing with the cuetip directly? Thank you.
@jasonalwaysreadyyt
@jasonalwaysreadyyt 2 жыл бұрын
I would recommend a gloss before. It will probably be mostly ok but it can stain. Same for using oil pants for panel lining. I regret not clear coating before on most models I've done. Also, a q-tip is aggressive, try to use the makeup foam based ones if you can.

Hi, nice video, thanks to you I found out the panel liner, should I need to use gloss on models before liner or it will be alright if I just apply on a coat of citadel paint?
@jasonalwaysreadyyt
@jasonalwaysreadyyt 3 жыл бұрын
I've done it both ways, and I think as long as the previous acrylic paint is completely dry, it is ok to use the panel liner on top of it without the need for a clearcoat. I would caution against trying to work the panel liner after application too much, and if you remove excess panel liner to again be gentle and let the mineral spirits do the work. it would be safer to put on a clear coat before, but too many layers can start to get rid of details on the models. I meant to discuss this in the video but neglected it. good question, this is my experience. thanks for watching!

I am not super familiar with miniature painting, however I've heard that Vallejo metallics are pretty good. Anything I should avoid from Vallejo, because I know they are a good value paint. Its just that certain brands are especially good at different things.

@@Clint_Beastwood haha, I'm just a guy doing a hobby with notifications on. I use that material exclusively for all my mini basing (with army painter rocks), but sometimes throw some of the citadel agrellan earth on for different texture on the same base. It takes a paint and dry brush very well. Ask any questions, no problem.

As someone who has never highlighted edges, does it have to be these super thin lines? Since my hands are very shaky.
@jasonalwaysreadyyt
@jasonalwaysreadyyt 3 жыл бұрын
If you use the side of your brush in the middle tangent to the edge, it shouldn't matter if you're shaky. Trying to do an edge highlight with the point would be difficult. The thinner the better, but I generally try to do a gradient of lighter colors getting thinner. Thanks for watching!

found this video as a new miniature painter. Is the panel liner similar to nuln oil?
@jasonalwaysreadyyt
@jasonalwaysreadyyt Жыл бұрын
Similar but different. Nuln oil is a wash that is sometimes slathered everywhere on a model. A panel liner is made for panel lines and crevices, will usually look better tidy. Nuln oil is a wash that is acrylic based and will have a softer effect. Panel liner is oil(?) based and will be opaque and bold. Nuln oil cleans up and can be modified with water. Panel liner will need a solvent base to remove and clean. Happy painting!

I've not watched the whole thing yet, going to check it out later. just wanted to ask though, for your capillary, panel lining did you use a special product or just add some flow improver to paint or something, please? EDIT: ah I see you are using the Tamiya stuff. I like their products. I'm doing brown lines though, so would have to see if I can colour match something in this product or not. I know you can make your own though, just by putting some flow improver into some paint, and some people even just do it with water. Will have to experiment. These smaller guys, I think this tech will be very useful for them, I've not done it before though. I usually paint them in manually. I like using black contrast paint for black lines at the moment, it works really well. Admittedly this was for a slightly different style of panel lining though, where only one side has an edge, so it was more about building up pigment at the edge, and then cutting back in with the red to get a crisp line. You can also glaze out a fade from the black line as well, just depends what you are going for. I've been meaning to look up this capillary-action style of panel lining though, and just keep forgetting about it. Just stumbled upon your channel when looking at Tau schemes on google.

@@jasonalwaysreadyyt I have some winsor and newton oils I need to try out still. I really want to get some of those abeltung ones, or whatever they are called though. They're supposed to be really good quality oil paints. I seen AK sell a wooden box with the whole set in, so tempting to get it. I'm a sucker for nice boxes. LoL. My windsor ones are called "winton oil colour" so they probably aren't the nicest ones, but the proper artist ones cost so much. Do you know if the winton oil colour is good enough for doing oil washes?

Great job but I feel like Tau are too simple for the classic method of painting. I feel like they end up looking "overpainted" if you know what I mean, too many layers of paint for not a lot of detail in the model.

@Pughhead 2 жыл бұрын
@@jasonalwaysreadyyt Kinda hard to explain, but I feel like the simple armour panels and smooth surfaces of the tau show imperfections in paint jobs too much (where paints overlap, uneven coats etc.), so this method looks much better on more detailed models like adeptus mechanicus for example. The end result you got is still really good, just the method doesn't suit Tau that much.
