This guy is so much bigger than everyone thinks! Thanks @warhammer for the early copy of Leviathan! My Screamer Killer tutorial is up now but I need your guys' help. I have 6k+ points of Tyranids painted in this scheme, and no name for the Hive Fleet! Any ideas?? Even though this is a personal scheme, the steps for painting this and the speed contrast schemes I showed you guys before are the same! Feeling very confident about getting my Leviathan set painted up by the end of the month, hope you'll paint along with me, or watch my descend into madness again at least! What should I paint next?

FAQ:Adding a light spray of Grey Seer over a full coat of black primer adds a small amount of texture to the primer which gives the contrast paint more to grip on to. It also adds light and shadows which helps define the model more.

Just preordered leviathan. I’m so going to follow the skin as it look quick, easy and looks fantastic. I’ve never used contrast but you make it look very easy. Can’t wait to follow the rest of the Nids

Nice scheme. I have a similar one with a more white flesh and royal blue carapace with ardcoat to give it a sheen. I call it Hive Fleet Boreas. Boreas is the Greek God of the north wind and winter.

@@MediocreHobbies Good to know. 🙂A friend has already ordered the set so when he gets it that's one set of Nids for me. I think I want two as I had two Screamer Killers in my 2nd ed army. Lawrence's - TTT's - rule of three would be nice but one I don't know if points would allow and two I'd be stuck with sixty Termagants. I do quite like the idea of an advanced Nids list Based around Stealers, Lictors, and probably hormagaunts. Some of the burrowing gribbles might work as well.

Hive fleet name, huh? Arctic themes, blue and pink color scheme. That makes me think of Finland. If you go far enough north, you get pinks and blues at sunset. I'd recommend Iku-Turso or one of the other translations (this being the same root origin for the metal band Turisas!), a mythological that is probably something akin to a sea giant. Wiki also says Meritursas (one of the other translations) also means octopus, so it fits with some of the aquatic naming conventions on the hive fleets. Most explicitly with Kraken, but to a lesser extent also with Leviathan. I do like the recommendation Wendigo elsewhere here. That's a really good one.

Great Video! I may just pinch the fleshy style off you and go with a black chitin instead. The traditional themes tend to have mythical names, So I would go with something like Boreas (Greek God) or Lausks (Latvian Winter Spirit) for your snowy theme. I've got a Leviathan box ordered (hopefully) from my local game store and I'm looking forward to painting up these models. Be great to see what you do with the brain bugs!

Keeping my fingers crossed for the Leviathan week! Also, a few weeks back I was pretty sure that I wanted to paint my nids as... Leviathan, because I knew that I'll paint the marines as Flesh Tearers. Then you showed some of the new schemes (and I think there are a couple more in the box? The "redacted" ones?) and my certainty started to crack. Now, when I'm wating for the box to arrive I feel kind of a painting decision paralysis. I like the Jormungandr, Tiamet and however they mispronounced Ouroboros, plus some of the new ones... but I also started to think that maybe I should come up with my own?

I'd start looking at nature! Find animals with similar shell/armour and see what kind of patterns they have? Mostly under the sea creatures for this type! Nature does the best paint schemes :D

I think I want to see the Von Ryan's Leapers done next, would be nice to see them done in this sceme. As for a name, most hive fleets are named after mythical creatures, hyrda, behemoth etc, so look up some creatures that have a snow/winter aesthetic to them.

Excellent as always! I do have some questions, very grateful for your consideration....so I did the drakenhoff nightshade scheme of yours...instead of doombull brown, what colour could I use for the recess of the armour? Please could you also give your opinion on using gloss varnish on either the skin or the armour? Some people say gloss varnish on the armour makes it look super alien and others say the skin...not sure if that could be a cool hack? Thanks for your work! Super excited to see you do the brain bug....also your hive fleet could be called hive fleet Megalodon or maybe Hydra?

So the second video I did painting three different scheme has the blue a red one and I gloss varnish the chitin in that one so you can see. I think it should be the chitin not skin. And may I ask why you don’t like the fool bill Brown? What other colour were you thinking?

I am looking for a change to painting power armour but Tyranids have always seemed a bit intimidating. Once again you've found a way to make it seem within reach of my limited (but growing) skill set. My wallet would like to know why you keep doing this to me... 😂

I swear it's not on purpose! They really are fun to paint though, especially with contrast paints now. I feel like there's a lot more room for learning when you're painting "live" creatures rather than armour! Any mistakes can be blended much easier!

Do you mean what would the difference be? Not sure if I’m reading the question but I use Grey Seer because it’s a softer tone than working on top of wraithbone, totally depends on your style!

I never really paint in subassemblies! Anything I can’t reach with a brush probably means it can’t be seen all that well so I just paint them fully built!

@MediocreHobbies sounds good I just got into the hobby and thought the leviathan box was the way start it off. Would it more optional to do the carapace first incase so I dont ruin the skin? Thanks again for the fast reply

the order that i do it in the video is the best way i worked out the series of colours, it would be harder to paint over the blue if you get it on the skin areas by accident rather than being a lot easier to touch up the other way around! Hope that makes sense?

Where did you get that dry palette? It looks like the one that they used on Warhammer official youtube videos before the palette pad. I've been looking for it for a while and couldn't find it. I know it's basically a normale palette, but I would like to have one as well ^^'
