The hazy blue of the background trees to the right of the painting is so accurate. I imagine you have to get the colour and tone spot on to achieve this amount of realism in the aerial perspective. You have inspired me to get back into painting, thanks

RE Bouncy Canvas I am 71 years old and my hands shake when I stand to paint, so I do much of my fine detail work seated, resting my arms on the table and using a bridge at my wrist to keep my fingers steady. I manufactured my own table-top easel such that it fits exactly inside a stretched frame and has a thin wood surface on which the canvas rests. The entire canvas hangs from the top rail and is supported side to side as well while resting on a flat surface, so when I need to stipple or push, the canvas does not bounce; it remains rock solid. If there were a way to post a picture here I would do it, but I don’t know how.

@@jadoon65 I have a web page, where I display some of my art oh, so my kids can keep up with it, as they live in another state. I am reticent to post my URL here, not wanting to steal the thunder from this person's page. The only picture I have on there now is a landscape of a place I played as a child on the west coast near Morro Bay called pirates cove and it was done from memory. I recently visited the area and the swath of green, which comes down from the cliff above has eroded into more or less a beach over the past 60 years. Still, it looks enough alike to be recognizable.

it's wild. I've only been painting for about 8 weeks and in a LOT of Michael's videos I see him doing things that I've been doing naturally. Just today I had to paint a birch tree but in the photo I was painting from I didn't like the way that one looked so I scanned the net for another and painted from that. This painting also has "mirror-like" water and I was having a hard time painting upside down and backwards to get the reflection to match. I watched another of his videos and his tree reflection wasn't identical either haha "I don't feel so bad now". I thought I was "cheating" by using a ruler to paint a straight line, then I saw Michael use his slidey wood piece as a guide. Whew, don't feel bad now.

Hi Michael, been following you for a long time. And was a student for a bit while you were teaching. You are the best. I love this painting! Listen I’ve been painting on canvas and recently switched to MDF and Masonite because of you. Best improvement I ever did. But is still love canvas and will continue on that as well. But I wanted to tell you I place a piece of plywood the same thickness as the stretchers under my canvas so it doesn’t bounce like you were having trouble with. Love you man! Keep it up!

Go and watch his videos from the beginning...understand color theory...decide on a palette of colors. (Colors you want to use all the time.) A limited palette is good...second primary palette...red..blue..yellow of cool color and red.. blue..yellow warm. Also...having quidacredone magenta ...sap green, burnt sienna(seascapes) burnt umber(landscape). You can mix to get a violet..but will never be true...better to have on hand. Windsor Newton oil's very good...the student brand is ok for practice...but the artists is best. It is however, better to decide on which one artists or student brand...because...if your learning...playing with color to get it down...you'll have different hues with artists oil and student. Listen and watch his videos...understand color theory, composition...if your serious ...once you have the basic understanding ...practice a tree and such from his videos and his method. When you feel comfortable...paint the landscape...his earlier videos ...you'll be able to paint along to. Understand values as well. Have a value chart...looking at your reference in black and white will help you...until it becomes second nature. Remember ..landscape have usually 4-5 values...keep your values in groups not scattered all over. Hope I made sense.
