Well, they're probably trying to make a bit more money with their channels if they're monetized already. It's often annoying on our end, because the actual content of the video is nowhere near requiring about ten minutes of video, but it's what people making content often do because the system on here kind of demands it of them for monetization to be worth their while. I think it was either 8 or 10 minutes to allow for mid-roll ads to be run on here. Conversely, if you want to specifically avoid the mid-roll ads for whatever reason, you'd make your videos shorter on purpose. I've seen a couple of creators do that as well, either sometimes or most of the time. If this platform is someone's main source of income or a much needed side hustle, you can't really blame them for doing what they have to within the system to get paid. You can blame KZfaq for designing their stuff that way, though. That's free real-estate right there.

Paints have different strengths. Strongest to weakest: Lacquer, Enamel, Acrylic. That means the corresponding thinner will be stronger as well - meaning lacquer thinner will eat through enamel and acrylic easily. So you should layer in order of strength (start with lacquer). The way to solve this problem is to use top coat at certain points throughout your build. Top coats, like the Tamiya rattle cans are lacquer, so they serve as a protective layer against lesser solvents.

Another tip: Try to topcoat clear gloss before panel lining as that tamiya panel line accent & thinner can make the plastic brittle, use it sparingly

so the thinner can melt gundam's plastic?
@ninjashoyo2062
@ninjashoyo2062 4 жыл бұрын
Ongky Febriandy Well it won’t necessarily “melt” the plastic but it will make it weaker and more brittle. This has happened to me before when I applied the Tamiya Panel Accent to Bear plastic without having gloss top coated the surface first. During the process the enamel thinner I used to clean up cracked some of my parts. Along with a gloss topcoat I also recommend using lighter fluid instead of enamel thinner. It’s not quite as effective but it doesn’t weaken your plastic and gets the job done.

Make sure to top coat (gloss) before and after applying the panel lines. Top coat will protect plastic against enamel because enamel based solvent will corrode plastic so if you leave it too long on a plastic it will break. I've had this experience several times 😱 It also protect the layer underneath it which can be a paint job you've just completed. It is also a good practice to use weaker base paint for the next layer. Paint base strength goes from lacquer > enamel > acrylic. Lacquer thinner will wipe off enamel and acrylic layer so if you're using enamel for you paint job don't use lacquer because it might wipe off the paint job. Top coat first then either use enamel or acrylic base paint. Acrylic is the better option here but you get the point. Have fun! And don't forget to top coat first! Don't wanna ruin your kit 😆

Tip: You could always try getting tooth picks & cotton balls and just wrap the cotton around the tips. When done just slide the cotton off and respin for next time. I do a load of crafts and sometimes the ones from the store are a bit bulky for what I need so I do this. Takes a few mins but I have a range of sizes that I find useful & it's saved me quite a bit in the long run tbh since I can get 1000 toothpicks for like 50p & a bag of cotton balls for around the same price & you don't even use that much of the cotton anyway so it lasts forever.

Tip: remember the difference of strength of the paint. Lacquer is the strongest, if u wanna panel line on top lacquer, u can use enamel or acrylic. But DO NOT use lacquer or enamel panel liner on top of acrylic. U can use mr weathering and mr weathering solvent for the clean up. It's the safest and weakest paint i know And becareful if u r panel lining using enamel or lacquer on bare plastic. The plastic may brittle and destroy your kit. Thank you, I'm just getting into this and I want to make sure I have all the right info before I start painting (I recognize that might be a year or two out). You're saying with the paint and thinner: paint, let dry 2 minutes max, then sparingly use thinner on cotton buds to clean up any messes. Also, I know with markers/pens the theory is using grey on white or light grey, black on blue, brown on yellow and red. Does the same theory not apply to paint?

Quick question, so after putting the panel lining, how long do I wait for it to dry to clean it up. And do I use a lot of thinner or just a small amount??

TY for the vid Justin. I intend to use acrylic paints for panel lining... do you have a recommended ratio to thin?

I would really like to try this technique. What I’ve done up to this point is use a sharpie over where the panel lines are and then wipe it off while it’s still wet with a paper towel

Nice tutorial. do you need to apply clear gloss coat before using tamiya panel accent color if I'm not applying a base paint?
@glenn7338
@glenn7338 4 жыл бұрын
Great video. But I think it is important to mention that Tamiya panel line accent colors CAN CRACK YOUR GUNPLA SURFACE if used on bare plastics. To avoid cracking, apply a layer of top coat ( gloss/semi-gloss, NOT matte as the surface is too rough to let the ink flow) before panel lining. Tamiya panel line color is very easy to use because it comes in pre-mixed already. But, the thinner can make the plastic quite brittle. Super important to know.

So what’s the safe way of applying Tamiyas panel accent color without breaking the joints? Starting my very first MG soon and don’t wanna mess it up
@glenn7338
@glenn7338 4 жыл бұрын
Scott Valdez There are 2 Ways. 1. The safe way: apply top coat then panel line. 2. The not so safe way: apply tamiya panel line without top coat. Try your best to reduce pooling of the color and hope for the plastic to not to crack. Or, you can use the gundam panel liner marker, it’s not as easy as using the tamiya but it won’t crack your plastic.

Hey Studio G! Your builds and vids actually inspired me to start adding details to my kits. I usually do straight builds because i like my gunpla like how they were in the anime, but this time i decided to add a little more details to the kit im about to build. I got the Wing Zero EW ver ka, and i would like to add panel lining and use the water decals to add a little more detail to it. However i have some questions before i do it. 1. What type of panel liner would you recommend for the kit? I will not be painting it, just the panel line and water slide decals. 2. I have seen some different suggestions for adding a top coat for protection. What order would you recommend in doing the panel lining, water decals and top coat? 3. For the water slide decals, is it nessesary to use the Setter and Softer? Do I only need one? Or both? Sorry for the bombardment of questions, and thank you! Stay awesome!

If you're not painting your kit, use normal watered down black acrylic for panel lining instead of tamiya's panel liner cause thats enamel based and would actually crack your gunpla :) for water decals you do need softer to make the decals soft and contour to curves and creases and mark fit to hold and glue the decals in place. If you don't have mark fit, you can actually use Elmer's glue or white glue, watered down and use that just like how you would use the mark fit instead. Once you are done with panel lines and decals, then top coat over everything to get them in place :) you can use gloss or flat type depending on what you want :) I would actually suggest getting a HG or SD kit to practice on first before committing to the rare Ver ka haha
