Been a decorator for years and this video is spot on for anyone wanting clear and precise instructions. Ok no two rooms are the same but if following your basic principles then there should be no issue . Great work P&D.

As a newcomer to paper hanging. I like using a combination of scissors and razor cutting. I like using the scissors to cut the sheets. But I much prefer using the straight edge with a notch technique to make the length cuts as he did with the fill to the corner. In some cases pulling it back from the wall to cut on pencil lines helps. But the American way of cutting along a straight edge against the wall I feel makes a cleaner cut alleviates the need for pulling back and reapplying your work. Watching a combination of these videos has really helped. I think I like the brush pasting for a more even and accurate spread of the amount of paste you want. When it's not an issue the roller is fine. And of course the roller only if you're pasting on the wall

Don’t do it like that just leave it covering the light socket and poke the plug through the paper, looks more pleasing to the eye lololol

I always use the blunt edge of an old cutlery knife to to give me the crease to cut along the paper, I find that scissors don't give me the precise crease I need to cut along. You should try it.

What I do aswell instead pulling paper off the wall

I was brought up to keep a thumb nail long , for scoring the paper at the ceiling, sometimes using the back edge of shears doesn't give a good line. After 30yrs i find a spatula and a snap off blade give a better cut, i drop 3 lenghts then cut as it gives a better cut line at ceiling and skirts.

Hi can I ask about papering two rooms in a thirties semi divided by 4 hinged paneled doors which divide the two rooms in the centre leaving a narrow width of wall either side of the folding doors frame...?

Any reasons for not lining the wall first?..great video by the way"
@PaintingandDecorating6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, some papers are thick and the texture hides a lot. Really it's light coloured finished papers that need lining before you hang the finished paper. Also if your wall is crazed with hairline cracks you line first. But good preparation on a wall and it should be fine to paper without lining first.
@christopherporter73323 жыл бұрын
Dont need to line the wall if the walls are smooth anuff to work on just needs a prep fill rub down and away u go but I allways size my walls up thin coat of paist b4r applying any paper but every 1 is different in the way the have been skilled and by whom they lernd from grat video and nice job

I was taught to start in the middle of the chimmney breast, because we used to have fires in rooms back when i started in the game.
@PaintingandDecorating11 ай бұрын
It all depends on the pattern, it is best to start a chimney breast first in the middle. But if you know your paper and where the pattern is going to sit it doesn't matter.. thanks

The problem is I am using a Laura Ashley patterned paper Isadore. .I have successfully pattern matched all of the room...but am left with the two pieces of wall to either side of this dividing door aperture....the drops from picture rail to skirting are fine but the width of each wall is 4cm wider than width of paper which is 53cm...do I put up a full with of paper either side of the folding doors into the side of the door frames and infill with a thin sliver of paper either side into the interior corner...or do I try and divide the awkward wall into and seam paper down middle So I keep a kind of symmetry? Thank you...tricia
@PaintingandDecorating6 жыл бұрын
Tricia T well you can even the pattern out best you can on either side. And if it's a good paper and the joints hide nice it should be fine. But your better off to have a joint to one side rather than down the middle.
@triciat3426 жыл бұрын
Painting and Decorating thank you. Will experiment with one full width and very narrow strip join into left hand and right hand corners
@zorroonmilkavitch18404 жыл бұрын
A little trick for you all. After you book most papers that are pretty durable especially vinyls. You can glue and book them and even let them sit as much as overnight. Or more as long as they're put in a plastic bag and cinched uptight. A good pro Will cut a room. Paste all the paper, book it, bag it and a hang it That's how I was taught. But maybe in England they just keep it a little simpler.

Why doesn’t someone show how to paper round a unsquare corner then?
@stephenbygrave79502 жыл бұрын
I guess its because every unsquare corner is different. A job that only years of trial and error by a working professional should undertake?

All unsquare corners. Are done exactly the same way ( professional tradesman))

Why haven't you sized up the wall 1st. and for me a I yous a straight edge to slice the tops of the paper with a sharp snap off Stanley blade snapping it of after ever 1 or 2 length's work smarter not harder but we all got our own ways that mine but great job mate 👍

you don't know how to cut the wallpaper down.. if yoou are alternating rolls which you are you surely don't know why !!!
@SuperWoodyboy3 жыл бұрын
That place is a DUMP! What's with that silly scissor marking instad of using razor blade knives and a straight edge??? And why aren't you using a seam rollar and a bucket of water and a sponge for a final wiping to make sure there is not glue on the front??
@zorroonmilkavitch18404 жыл бұрын
Wow, I cannot believe this guy. Streams of all this paper with a scissor and he was talking about someone else being an amateur. I got to get off at this site, bye-bye.

Always yous snap of blades mate and a straight edge snapping off the blades after every 1,2 lengths just so much faster
@armbadmin4 жыл бұрын
Don’t explain how to use a chalk line which is a bit of a disaster has you could end up with chalk dust all over your Laura Ashley or other 300 quid a roll paper. Pencil lines are carbon and can also ruin a good paper. Ok for your B&Q budget rolls though
