Yes that was the same for me.. although I had watched my dad and knew what to do.. working at the first company doing my apprenticeship we weren't allowed to paper only paste. Then one day working for another company I was doing kitchens on a a council estate, and was asked by one tenant could l put up a wallpaper boarder. Anyway Clark of works took pictures and then I started to snag all the other jobs on the estate. Then one day I was asked if I could paper.... well heart in mouth I said yes sure... told to bring my papering gear next day.. taken to a nursing home and told to paper the reception area.. all stripped ready to paper.. he said right there you go it's been papered twice and Clark of works failed it twice. Well I just shrunk and took a deep breath.. three days it took me working around people still working.... thankfully it got passed. Then I had to go round lots of jobs putting the wallpaper right... gives you a lot of confidence. I was thrown in at the deep end but luckily I knew how to swim... thanks

Yes I just like using my flat brush... also think a flat brush applies a better layer of paste especially on edges of the paper.

Horses for courses, but I prefer a brush. I find it soaks the paste into the paper especially when working with a heavy paper like anaglypta

6" flat brush great brush... my dad did all his emulsioning using them.. no rollers when he started..

Thank you... not sure I've done one on external corners yet. But your paper needs to be plum.. allow paper to go around corner then make sure edge is plum... sometimes this can leave small bubbles up the corner... nothing you can do generally.... your lucky if your corner is straight.

Thanks for reply we tackled it in the end and in general were really pleased for a first attempt at wallpapering. We had to overcome light switches x 2 Double plug x 2 , bathroom fan switch two internal two external corners and a burglar corner sensor and two door frames all on one wall 😢😢You made it look so easy we took ages 😂 and nearly divorced. Only real error is I can see a tiny 1mm overlap now partly down the seam but we can’t do anything now as it’s dried overnight which is only thing that’s stopping me celebrating. At least we saved £90 thanks for taking time to share your knowledge I know how hard it can be to keep updating these videos. Well done true pro all the best to you 👍 so hard to cut paper with a craft knife as well kept catching and ripping even using a metal edge that’s really annoying as well.

The really is only one technique of hanging wallpaper... and to answer the rest you only need a tape-measure... get your paper follow instructions.... sorted

It would be awesome to watch your techniques and learn the measurements before laying. could you make a such video? or explain how to do it? I wish to lay something myself, but got no clue how to measure and lay.

You're wrong why waste money on a laser. I bought one and don't use it because it's rubbish for decorating. Also never use a spatula if you want a professional job doing. Not old methods just correct methods. You will learn eventually that new ideas are just to sell products. Thanks

@@PaintingandDecoratingnew ideas ? Laser levels have been around for yrs & laser levels are 100% accurate so not sure there ? Regarding spatula to flatten paper etc i always use now & as long as there smooth on edge & plastic it's perfect, did a job yesterday that way, much better, the wooden part of the brush can sometimes catch paper if not careful, never happened to me but can happen , the spatula also pushes out any bubbling in paper as it sits completely flat on surface unlike bristles which are individual, 38yrs exp & counting, each to there own but your methods are old & you wont beat a laser level for straight lines fact

We used to paint t walls and ceilings with a 7" brush that made you're arm ache by Friday.

It's good and better for certain papers and conditions. But I do use paste you mix yourself a lot of the time.

My bib and brace are at work so I had to used some old ones.

You always check first around the room to see how it fits. Using a roll of paper check the drops.

I never use plumb bobs...Too slow. I use a spirit level

Erm...take into account the pattern differential. Makes sense right.

@@totemtommy so what you saying hang paper lob sided to match pattern send rest of wall out would look pissed or do as in video lose pattern into corner so the whole new wall looks straight is the only way the pattern carnt be spliced to look right because of the pattern ask any man who does this on a regular basis its always the big picture you would be working to try hanging a wide splice match when things run out at 1000+ a roll haha

Yes splitting one length and will be doing a video to show how its done soon.
