Definitely quieter. That smoke filled the drivers area. Haha. I did something very similar using an old piece of galvanized tubing from a dryer vent hood. Wrapped it around the two separated ends of a broken exhaust (from rust) and a clamp on each end. Took care of the noise, passed emissions check and last for about three years (in the North Eastern Rust Belt area). Called it my hillbilly fix. But only costs me buying two clamps.

@Noises5 жыл бұрын
Pay the extra for braided flexible bellows. Use some gasket goo or exhaust repair putty between the original pipe and sleeve under each clamp. The longer you can leave the finished repair to cure before you start the engine again, the better. The end result is a much more durable repair that will last a lot longer since it will be able to handle jolts and vibrations. (tip, attach the clamps sidways rather than having the bolts facing down, this will reduce the chance of the bolts getting hung up on a kerb, rock or tree stump and ripping the exhaust off. Trimming back the bolts also helps.)

Thieves use cordless sawzalls to steal catalytic converters. Looks like they got interrupted and left before they could finish. The trick to get a good seal with flex pipe or exhaust adapters etc., is to get the size that is the diameter of the pipe you are patching. If the exhaust pipe is 1 3/4" then get 1 3/4 inch flex pipe etc. It's measured from the inner diameter, I.D. Also get 1 3/4" clamps. You want the flex pipe to barely fit over the exhaust pipe you are patching. You can rent a tail pipe expander from the auto parts store and stretch the flex pipe or adapters slightly if needed to fit over the exhaust pipe.
@michaelharris8674 жыл бұрын
so im going to attempt to do this on mine i mesaured and it is 2 inch , so shoud i get a 2 inch or 2 and 1/8?
@JohnSmith-mk8hz4 жыл бұрын
@@michaelharris867 If the pipe you are repairing is 2 inch outer diameter, then get 2" flex pipe. They measure repair flex pipe and other repair pipe from the inner diameter so it fits over 2 inch outer diameter pipe. Also, those flex pipe kits only come with one clamp so get another 2 inch clamp. You will possibly need to rent a tail pipe expander to slightly stretch the flex pipe to fit over your exhaust. You want it to be a snug fit so it will seal properly.

I was wondering the same thing. My original flex pipe section (2005 Accord V6) was short, but covered over with wire braiding. The aftermarket replacements, for whatever reason, are only lasting about a year. So, I'm wondering if I cut the pipe to the last converter back some, then put in a long section of this stuff, maybe wrapping it in muffler bandage and putty, will it be long enough to flex without breaking. If I keep the car long enough, I might give it a try.
