About Sheepdog Response:
Sheepdog Response was founded by Green Beret, Special Forces, Sniper, and former top 5 UFC Middleweight, Tim Kennedy. Tim was also the co-star of Hunting Hitler on the History Channel, and more recently, Hard To Kill, on the Discovery Channel.
People face threats of violence every day, ranging from large-scale terrorism to one-on-one assaults. Most people are unprepared, unequipped, and untrained to respond effectively. This weakness in the flock allows the wolves to attack with great ease and success.
The answer is not more laws. The wolves don’t follow them. We must give the good guys the tools they need to effectively respond to violence. The more Sheepdogs we can train to be truly ready to respond to a mass shooting, terrorist attack, violent mugging or home invasion, the better the chances are that the bad guys will get what they deserve and the good guys will survive. Most people sign up for martial arts or weapons training expecting to learn realistic self-defense, and few get it…
We have developed a curriculum that addresses the skills you need to successfully respond to threats

@Jeff Wilkins LOL, yeah. I'm actually torn between the two methods. On my MC2c, which has outstanding slide serrations, I'm comfortable with slingshot. Hellcat with poor serrations, I'm only comfortable with slide release. PPQ with exceptional slide releases is easy peasy. But I rarely carry an extra mag so I really don't worry to much about mag reloads...by the time my pistol is empty I better have solved the problem or at least solved it enough to run away. And if I am carrying an extra mag (maybe 5% of the time), after the first is empty I've hopefully made progress in getting off the X.

Just try it. Before support hand leaves grip, pull the pistol laterally with support index finger to rotate grip in control hand, bringing the mag release to your thumb. Support hand leaves grip to index mag on belt/ simultaneously mag release. Index up. Insert. Slide lock/ Simultaneously push pistol back into ready grip purchase with support hand. If you have to engage the mag release with the tip of your thumb and rotate the grip in your hand, you're doing major motor movements with your control hand. Meanwhile, support side is also doing major movements and efficiency is not optimized because your control hand is juggling between fine and major motor skills. Support side: major motor movements. Control side: fine motor movements. No disrespect intended. Good training here. Train well. Train smart. Just ...try it out.

In the words of Mr. Pat McNamara, why are you following the target to the ground? The target didn’t move. Why scan and assess with your head and not the gun? You followed the threat to the “ground” so why not move the weapon with your eyes as you “scan and assess?”

@ninjashoon8582

If the slide doesn't lock back you have a type 1, failure to fire, which isn't obviously an empty mag so you would tap/rack/flip, if it ends up empty with the slide locked back then you reload. The slide is nearly always back if you are empty. If not you will force it locked back by attempting to fix it.

Very important that you know your weapon system. For glocks this is not the correct way. For a glock you must rack the slide to reload from slide lock. Yes it will work using your thumb on the slide STOP however, it is called a slide stop from glock for a reason. There have been instances in the states where people (cops) do there mag change with the slide stop and it does not send the next round all the way home and now you have a malfunction due to the used not reloading the manufactures recommended way. Glock will not stand behind that shoot as the mag change was not done properly for their weapon system. Not saying what’s in this video is bad, just remember this is A way not THE way!

I'm not a pistol instructor but it seems like a lot of crap to try to remember. Bullets going over your head and you're thinking "Ah wait, keep the gun vertical? But that guy was holding it a bit to the side. Point the grip of the gun at my magazine pouch for some reason, I guess just in case my wrists stop working." None of this will make you fast, or keep you from fumbling. Guys who do crazy cowboy action trick reloads are lightning quick because of mountains of practice, not because they held their gun at exactly 32.87 degrees. Everyone's got different shaped and size hands, everyone's got a different gun, magazine pouches and holster positions vary from shooter to shooter. So much going on in a real life situation like this, remembering some random string of commands isn't going to help you at all compared to knowing your gun inside and out, and being completely familiar with how to reload it quickly based on a ton of nuanced factors. Assuming you're still alive to reload it, or the bad guy isn't down after a 15 round mag dump.

Question why do you chose to turn your weapon to load ?Vs keeping your weapon on target grab full mag release empty mag into full mag hand and reload ? For me dropping mag on ground makes you a victim The amount of times you bent down to pick up your possibly dirty or bent or lost mag down a storm drain or rabbit hole looks like a lot of work

Warlan Tactical : sincerely asking. Why are you saying an empty mag is a retrievable asset in a gun fight?

Fresh Oxygen if you have to ask me that you don’t have the right training . The real topic is why leave your target . I was taught by all walks of life never leave target never drop mags . So I wanted to here his take on why turn your weapon off target . Now I was taught don’t move weapon it’s on target and bad guys can’t see if your empty also turning your weapon you loose reload time situational awareness because you are changing focus to your . weapon .

Warlan Tactical : I don’t have pride points to put on display here. I’m just asking Why in the world would an empty magazine be any sort of priority in a gun fight without cover? Even if it magically teleported back to your carrier, do you keep loose rounds on you like pocket change? I understand tactical reload behind cover but there’s no cover in this video. Everything is a about situational probability as their is never a one size fits all training. Except marksmanship itself. Situational probability. Learn to do both. But dropping mags will surely be the norm in combat and a tactical reload will happen more easily because you’ll more consciously perform it as you have breathing moment behind cover. But an unnecessary tactical reload without cover while there’s still a round or two I. The mag? That 1 second difference could be a death sentence.

Fresh Oxygen again the combat vets and etc I was trained by do not drop mags . I have years of this imbedded in me . Think about it . I don’t stand still when I shoot I move . I don’t have time to go back and Search for my mags so they are already on me . Win win right there . Yes in a larger scale battle I will have rounds in my kit . At home I use a shot gun to protect my family . first off again I am not military I don’t have endless resupply of mags . They are gold to me . Does that make more sense . Like Bruce lee said learn all styles not one . So my question still has not been answered why turn your weapon and not stay on target ? Always think out of the box I never never leave your target .

And also if you believe the bad guy is going to stand there while you dump mag after mag in them lol your wrong . Also if you have to shoot the whole mag into them your a horrible shot . If there are multiply guys learn to shoot and move count your rounds train under duress . Sitting there in the same position shooting at a target in one spot is not a combat situation people move . Again I am not military . So have someone shoot right next to you would put you under duress . And once in while shoot with out ears for a few rounds because if you are talking about combat training You don’t where ears . If you are learning how to protect your family are you going to tell the bad guy wait a minute I have to put on my ears lol . Just look at all situations and think about it about turning your weapon to reload . No one has even been able to answer that question . Everyone I ask they say I never leave target to reload . Ask any police officer . Not here to fight only answer to the one question why turn your weapon to reload ? This is what KZfaq is for to ask and answer questions survival is in numbers we are all together on this . Everyone should be here to help each other be better together .

I just can’t with these videos. Every time they instruct it comes off bad. Sorry but just because you are good at something doesn’t mean you’re good at teaching it.

So you’re gonna teach people to improperly use the slide lock as a slide release really? Don’t you think if it was meant to be used that way it would’ve been designed to be used that way but since it wasn’t, it’s not?

Effective tactics for shooting paper targets. Just repetitive motion that will get you killed in a gun fight, cause the other guy will be trained to ADAPT, while your muscle memory can only preform for one scenario. People pay money for this? Talk about expendable income.
