The “talk over” from the instructor in the back (right at the beginning of the video) is priceless - you have an instructor talking - and the “prof” in the back decides to not once but several times DROP interruption and potential confusion on a class of possible novices! Priceless! $800 a class gets you chatterbox McGee in the back who has an opinion to “override the guy at the podium”.

I live outside KC for the last 6 years, but used to pass this place daily going to fly planes on the lakebed right around the corner. I wished I was still in Vegas after this. This place is way closer than Front Sight in Parhump where I used to train

I was 9 years old when i shot my first firearm. My dad had been in the military and failed to become a green barret but i had some awesome special forces guy's teach me proper gun handing. I never even put a round in the chamber until i learned the basics. Repetition Repetition. Seeing this reminds me of those great lessons learned on the range.

Wow. These guys really like their slide releases. That guy was passionate about it. Though racking the slide is not an entire second slower. Especially if you have someone with weak thumbs and a tiny stiff slide release. I’ve seen my gf spend 3-5 seconds trying to thumb the release on her glock and barley getting it but she can rack that slide in a fraction of a second. My CZ Shadow 2 slide release is towards the front of the oversized external safety making it hard to reach you thumb around it. Even if you do you’ve shifted your grip to get to it. I either have to off-hand thumb the release or do a quick slide rack. Besides all of that there are many pistols where you need to shift your grip to thumb the release. It’s is far worse to shift your grip than taking a tenth of a second longer to rack. I see their point and I agree in certain scenarios but them saying it’s always better to thumb the release regardless of the person and model of pistol they are using is just dumb.

This is like talladega nights but guns instead of nascar.

I guess over the top slide release is the only way for a lefty unless you have something like a gen5 glock with slide release on both sides.

About to buy a pistol tomorrow and the way I’ve been trained by the Marine Corps on the M16 makes me eager to actually be proficient in using a pistol. Held one for the first time and if it were an emergency I would have been dead because the lack of knowledge I had and confidence that isn’t yet established. Thank you for the video I’ll be sure to make this a habit!

First off, depending what weapon system you're utilizing, depends on the way you manipulate that weapon. When it comes to your sidearm (secondary) reloading becomes way more dynamic. Using the slide catch/slide stop can cause more malfunctions, simply because the energy just simply isn't there using the catch or slide stop. That's the reason it's more efficient to rack the slide back by hand. Any comments, please tell.

Meh... While using the slide lock to reload is probably just fine, it does tend to incure more failures. That's why so many people were taught to charge the slide manually

Soooo as an armorer and small arms instructor.... is it a slide STOP assembly ie locking the slide to the rear upon empty magazine OR now hear me out here a slide RELEASE assembly? Um its designed function on the weapon is in its name. The weapon was NOT designed to be manipulated that way, go to a Glock armorer course or any factory course and youd know that. Now is it faster yup sure is when it done right and you dont get a dead mans gun, manipulation of the slide with your off hand when done correctly is WAY WAY less than a second slower AND fail proof. Just food for thought get with a school who teaches grabbing the slide, say Mid-South and I guarantee every single one of them will outshoot you doing the slide manipulation technique, and you will prolly learn a few things

When he started yelling about 10 AK rounds coming towards you I knew the type of guys that come to these trainings just like to feel like theyre training to be operators and they know it too. Not saying what theyre teaching isnt important. I just don't need to fluff myself thinking I'm training more for ar civil war than self defense and weapons handling competency.

I hear that when your in shity bellow zero weather you lose feeling in your fingers and slide stop may not work for your reload soo much. So just go over the top. I'm not a SF guy just security in Chicago and man when it's cold it's cold. They train all CPD and security out here to go over the top. Maybe in warmer climates they teach you differently cause you may have those options. Any way awsome video. Just my 2 cents.

What if you are a lefty and have a 3rd gen glock or similar weapon with no slide stop on the right? The tap and rack is all we got without doing some stupid weapon manipulation that causes us to do something that takes the gun out of a good firing grip and our eyes off the target to complete. Yell all you want but if you cant teach users of both sides of the gun im out!

Few problems.. 1. Fine motor skills diminish, no one said they are absent. Using the mag release and trigger are fine motor skills. Unfortunately there are no other methods to remove the magazine or discharge the firearm. There is however another method for loading the gun, that is using the slide. Oddly enough, using the slide works on all semi autos, in any slide condition and mimics your Immediate Action drill. It also works for left handed shooters, right handed shooters, old, young, strong, weak, large hands, small hands, wet hands, bloody hands, muddy hands, sweaty hands. 2. The slide lock lever is NOT designed to be used on Glock pistols. A little research would reveal this information. The slide lock on a Glock pistol is intended to be used to manually lock the slide to the rear should it be necessary. Not to mention, slide locks are not universally located, nor are they easy to reach on all pistols, nor are they ambidextrous. The slide is absolutely universally located, easy to reach and works for left and right handed uses. 3. "1 second is 10 rounds from an AK47" Why are you engaging a rifle threat with a handgun?? Such a vague statement is neither useful nor realistic. 4. Press checks are stupid. If your magazine is seated(and you confirmed by tugging on it) then a round did indeed enter the chamber when the slide was released or racked. If press checking is so important, why doesn't anyone do it between shots? Why would you trust the firearm from the 2nd round to the last round without a press check, but when you aren't loading under stress you don't trust the gun and feel the need to press check??

Im apparently a horrable person because I still think its better for most people to be trained to rack the slide by going over the top. Also if your using you non dominant hand it becomes troublesome to hit the slide release with the left hand. Narrowmindedness on behalf of the instructor. But he said it so confidently like a televangelist preacher asking for money.

What happen to looking for cover??? Those few seconds, or second, it takes to reload a gun, 10 AK rounds are heading my way. I'm not Superman or the Invinsible Man. I'm just dead. SHOOT. RUN. COVER.

Why would I press check in in the middle of a gun fight? If my slide locked back on empty, I slammed my loaded mag in properly, and racked the slide home, I am 100% sure my gun did it’s job and a round was seeded in the chamber. No need for a Press check while I’m in the middle of a bad situation.

I know they know their shit & I have a huge amount of respect for T.Kennedy .. but Kennedy literally contradicts himself with "what's another second to tap & wrack if you hit the slide release early" then goes on to say "what's a second in a gunfight ?" "An eternity" .. I've taken a few fighting pistol classes & have been trained both ways . The best instructions I have gotten were during my sheriff's department 5wk firearms training when it came to this ..the instructors told us "do what you feel is best for you" .. me personally I get back in the fight by going hand over slide though sometimes I practice using the slide release method just to remember what it feels like to have that "oh shit" moment when the gun goes "click" & not "bang" & I need to tap,wrack,& work .. I understand the argument for both but I will stick with what works for me ... LE instructors are now teaching that the mag being replaced during a combat reload gets stowed (pocket, between your inner belt & tummy, wherever the fuck,etc.) & does not fall to the ground .. you keepthe muzzle pointed down range while stowing said mag because if done right you have at least one round to stay in the fight if things go bad before you get the full mag in .. I absolutely & completely agree with the fact that you can absolutely use fine motor skills in shtf situations .. I use my thumb during an AR reload instead of the slap & that's supposedly a "fine motor skill"

Using the slide stop as a slide release is faster, unless you fucking up. Which more likely in a gun fight. Running the slide is a sure way to get back in the gun fight every time.

They kept contradicting each other, adding workspace steps, mag pouch identification, and then press checks and holster identification. And sorry not sorry, training to run the slide works with ALL pistols. Not ALL pistols have a slide "release". The fucken instructor called a a "slide stop assembly". I would've walked.

If you need to pay to figure this out, hopefully you don't drive.

Bad safety violation. Ask me why? In the first 10 seconds you can see a person standing in front of the the instructor. Never stand in front of the 180 degree line. Instructor should have been aware of this violation.
