I use a large landscape sketchbook that is black. I can set it on top of my bead tray so I don't have to clear off my desk. A few simple steps in Windows photo editor and I have stunning photos. Thank you for these excellent better header videos.

Great tip about the floor samples. I struggle with too much reflection. I can never seem to get the lighting angle right. One other tip is to get an inexpensive tripod to totally eliminate shake.

Great tips! I have also photographed in my open bathtub with lots of natural light:)

That's a great idea! Your bathtub (if it's white) will act as a giant reflector and bounce all that beautiful natural light around for a more even (and nicely diffused) light! ~Amber

Thanks so much for your tips. They are very helpful and I plan on definitely implementing them. 😍 Photographer told me to take outside on a cloudy day. I’ve tried some photos using his tips- but they don’t always come out.

Outside on a cloudy day acts as a natural light box/diffuser and is excellent advice. :) If you don't get what you like in the first photo, try, try again!

My photos are awful, when I try to be artistic it looks like a 2 year old has done it. I use my light box for most things now, the pieces that won't fit it it's pot luck now they turn out. 😁

When taking photos of jewelry, I have to really work hard to avoid shadows in the picture. Do you have any helpful hints for avoiding shadows?
@Potomacbeadco
@Potomacbeadco 3 жыл бұрын
Lighting, lighting, lighting! A nice even light will eliminate unwanted shadows. If you are photographing next to a window with harsh afternoon sunlight, either move to a Northern facing window or try taping a piece of waxed paper or thin translucent paper to the window to diffuse the light. ~Amber

My biggest challenge is photographing shiny pieces (especially galvanized beads & crystals). What are your best tips?
@Potomacbeadco
@Potomacbeadco 3 жыл бұрын
When photographing highly reflective items, it is best to completely tent the project and photograph through a slit between 2 pieces of white fabric or paper (white to reflect the light back at your creation). ~Amber

Thank you...for this....the probelm I have is my colors dont show up....like indigo blue looks black...I use my tablet and my phone....so my probelm is getting the color of the actual color of the beads or jewelry ....dark amethyst....looks black in photos and the light amethyst does not come out as it shud also.....wish cud get some help with that.....I light above and around no widows...
@Potomacbeadco
@Potomacbeadco 3 жыл бұрын
That is a definite struggle and I use photoshop to lighten problem areas. However, if you are shooting a dark amethyst crystal or gemstone (something transparent or translucent), try adding a little bit of light from the back or reflecting light back through the crystal or gemstone.~Amber

@Potomacbeadco
@Potomacbeadco 3 жыл бұрын
It depends are what look you are going for. Mostly I shoot on white because I want to highlight the project or the beads and not have a distracting background on the website. But I do like dark blues, rusted metal, wood, and my trusty floor samples :) ~Amber
