A crucial aspect in thickness reduction is the frame type. Smaller around frames are much more suitable for high prescriptions than the frame type in your presentation.

I am -9.00 myopic with -0.75 astigmatism in my right eye, and -8.25 myopic with -1.50 astigmatism in my left eye. I have a binocular pd of 58 (30 in right eye and 28 in left eye). I have a round face with small eyes. What frame shape type would you recommend for me?

@@rainbow20112011, not only frames! Have you considered asking your optometrists about a "distance" or vertex adjustment? In your prescription 2mm change can make about 0.25 D of difference, and I'm sure your heavy eyewear slides further than that on your nose. That 0.25 D might be under correction you eyeglasses have never had.

MH Optical Labs, congratulations the best point you made for high RX/difficult perscriptions was to seak out an independent optician. There are many other consideration: starting with the percription - those thick lens are not only heavy (causing nose slide effection vertex distance), some can cause facial contact resulting in under correction (here the patient or their parent should consult the optometrist about vertex distance), also consider angled cut-back for the lens edge (on minus lenses). Yes, small frame openings - try to stick to under 52mm, ideally smaller (almost impossible to find in adults). High index lenses, as high as you can afford, and they will need anti-reflective coating. If glass can be use, choose it (they will weigh more [as an example I've had RX glasses of 78 & 56 grams], can be had in higher index, if not broken in the lens can be used as backups for a very long time - as a bonus has a better thermal conductivity resulting is shorter blinding time due to temperature fogging. Another thing to consider is eyeglass retainers. Fabric ones like Croakies (mirco suiter) can distribute glasses weight on the ears. Wire frame or "plastic". Fully enclosing frames definitely! Most would rule out wire frames, but consider: thick lenses can contribute to uncomfortable heat around the eyes; the raise nose pads of wire frames allow for some adjustment (very helpful for heavy glasses, or one that will be fitted over a good length of the nose - multi-focal point lenses are seldom desired due to life long historical habits). Given how integrated eyeglasses & RX of high diopters lenses are (with some choosing frames first: due to style, size, historic compatibility, adjustability, possibility of vertex compliance, weight consideration) - here is another tip. If you're a high RX, check the eyewear available at optometrist's affiliated opticians for glasses with small frame opening - even most that claim a myopic speciality will have nothing to offer.

I have a very high RX and I hate wearing glasses because of it. I much prefer contacts but can't afford new ones at the moment. I have never had any eye doctor suggest a frame size due to my high RX and this needs to change. I went to a popular eyeglasses chain store and the lady taking down the frame choices was the only one that told me to maybe choose a smaller frame only because I told her that my lenses were going to be thick. We choose our frames before we even see the doctor and now that seems completely backwards. Why is this? Thanks for the info on the lenticular lens, are they much more expensive? Seems like with todays advanced technology that someone could really solve the problem of thick lenses.

Is that mean the thinnest high prescription glasses is high index lens or glass lens if anyone has it these days and small (but allowing progressive) round frame with pd dead center of each lens exactly the distance between centers of both eyes?

Does a higher decentration only effect the weight and "comfortableness" of a frame on a person's head and face, or does it also affect the vision and optical clarity?

Years ago, when my RX wasn't as strong (Somewhere in the +5.50 range for my left eye), I got Wiley X "Roamer" frames. I want wraparounds to keep the sun from sneaking in from the top and sides since I have a sensitivity to light. But now, thanks to diabetes damaging the retina in my left eye, I need to rely on my legally blind right eye. So the RX for that is now +11.25. They can't get an RX for the left eye because the spot in my vision doesn't allow me to see the big "E" on the eye chart clearly. So they just kept the RX for the left eye the same as what it was before the retina was damaged. What frame would work with a +11.25, that would be close to a wraparound style?

I dont know frames too much to recommend one, but plus lenses in a wrap tend to be a little easier then minuses. Find a frame that fits you well try to match the frame PD to you PD.... Have your Optician work with the lab to grand a lens that will work im sure it can be done.

Small Eye Wire, high index, maybe aspheric. It's not that complicated. And I am an ABOM.
