Is that mean the thinnest high prescription glasses is high index lens or glass lens if anyone has it these days and small (but allowing progressive) round frame with pd dead center of each lens exactly the distance between centers of both eyes?
@puramuk29 күн бұрын
I have always wonder is the lens thicker on a bigger blank size lens than a smaller with same prescriptions, in same center view area. The edge is thicker in the bigger blanksize of course I understand.

Does a higher decentration only effect the weight and "comfortableness" of a frame on a person's head and face, or does it also affect the vision and optical clarity?

Great Video! I have a pair of Essilor Varilux Lens with Transitions XTRActive and a Fire Red Mirror Coating. XTRActive Grey with Fire Red Mirror Coating Pros + All visible light wavelengths activate the XTRAactive vs. UV activates the Transitions Gen8 + Great for outdoor sports and driving, use them everyday for walking and running outside + Become much darker than Transitions Gen8, even more so when below 70 F outside + Better than Transitions Gen8 for outdoor activities and driving + Quick to darken and lighten, still work great after 1 year of daily use Cons - Prefer not to use indoors, too much light attenuation and too many internal reflections from indoor light sources - Try not to use these outside at night because of internal reflections from vehicle lights, street lights, etc. - Still usable after dusk, but prefer to wear Transitions Gen8 or non-Transitions lenses

Still need the general results / specs though - and a visual comparison wouldn't hurt. Do I really want a 100% top to bottom progressive grind? What about the off-sides - blurry vs sharp? How do they compare? Is a wide Trifocal still a good option? How does that compare for cost and specs? Great advice so far! Do part 2 please!

MH Optical Labs, congratulations the best point you made for high RX/difficult perscriptions was to seak out an independent optician. There are many other consideration: starting with the percription - those thick lens are not only heavy (causing nose slide effection vertex distance), some can cause facial contact resulting in under correction (here the patient or their parent should consult the optometrist about vertex distance), also consider angled cut-back for the lens edge (on minus lenses). Yes, small frame openings - try to stick to under 52mm, ideally smaller (almost impossible to find in adults). High index lenses, as high as you can afford, and they will need anti-reflective coating. If glass can be use, choose it (they will weigh more [as an example I've had RX glasses of 78 & 56 grams], can be had in higher index, if not broken in the lens can be used as backups for a very long time - as a bonus has a better thermal conductivity resulting is shorter blinding time due to temperature fogging. Another thing to consider is eyeglass retainers. Fabric ones like Croakies (mirco suiter) can distribute glasses weight on the ears. Wire frame or "plastic". Fully enclosing frames definitely! Most would rule out wire frames, but consider: thick lenses can contribute to uncomfortable heat around the eyes; the raise nose pads of wire frames allow for some adjustment (very helpful for heavy glasses, or one that will be fitted over a good length of the nose - multi-focal point lenses are seldom desired due to life long historical habits). Given how integrated eyeglasses & RX of high diopters lenses are (with some choosing frames first: due to style, size, historic compatibility, adjustability, possibility of vertex compliance, weight consideration) - here is another tip. If you're a high RX, check the eyewear available at optometrist's affiliated opticians for glasses with small frame opening - even most that claim a myopic speciality will have nothing to offer.

@mhopticallabs4616 Жыл бұрын
When it comes to impact resistance poly is ideal...i believe they use poly to make bullet proof glass..However uncoated poly scratches at the touch of a fingernail. thats why Poly lenses will always have some kind of hard coating on them....Maybe i worded it incorrectly in the video!

Does the lens need to go through an auto etch machine after loading on clips/racks to get cleaned before hitting the hardcoat machine? In your video the satisloh machine does the stripping of factory hardcoat, so if stripping and hardcoat is carried out in one machine does it still need another cleaning prior?
@mhopticallabs4616 Жыл бұрын
Our satis machine does a strip process on the left side of the machine and a primer and hard coat on the right, it’s an all in one strip and dip process…. We do prep the lenses before loading them on the clips by cleaning them with some alcohol and lint free cloths…. After the hard coat is applied they cure in a thermal oven ….then they are ready for the AR coater ….as long as that AR coater as ion etching they are good ….if the machine doesnt have ion etching it would need some form of etching (such as an ultra sonic wash or plasma) or else the coating stack won’t stick
@user-rp6lr6jr4w Жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing this. I have come across SCL machine that has strip option on the left of the machine just like the sati machine. But after loading the lens on rack they are put through an auto etch machine for a techniwash bath and after that process it goes through the SCL machine where again it goes through a techniwash bath+acid neutralizer+DI water. I just can't get my head around why do we need a separate etching process when it is available on the SCL machine. Not sure if I have explained it enough?
@mhopticallabs4616 Жыл бұрын
Some processes call for an external strip maybe that’s the idea…there are some benefits to an external strip first. We have had issues where we have contaminated our coating do to a wrong lens or an incomplete strip going into the coating ….an external strip allows you to audit a “naked” lens before it goes in the coating …. We have a new optimal machine on the way and I plan to do an external strip process fist with this machine
