I learned seven things by watching this... 1:07 - You can get that vortigaunt to stay. 2:13 - That guard is eventually revived. 3:50 - You can shoot that panel to re-open those doors. 7:02 - You can open that cupboard. 8:26 - You can break into that ceiling area. 12:40 - You can use that headcrab as a boost to get up there. 14:29 - You can pick up that crowbar.

Nice trick! It's interesting how GearBox made an unskipable crowbar in Blue Shift: they just placed a bunch of invisible crowbar entities next to the visible one, so you take it in any case.

Here's a fun fact: So you know how in Black mesa remake you get the crowbar a little later than usual? So in the old 2012 version of Black Mesa, the guard that you can ask to follow you can in very rare situations, can be picked up and thrown to the ground dead by a zombie as sort of a zombie glory kill. This can get you the pistol before you can get the crowbar.

At first I wondered why you didn't use the scientist trick to "open the silo door!" by luring him close to it, but then you showed the headcrab trick which I had no idea about. Cool! :)

Getting the blast pit crowbar instead of the unforseen consequences crowbar is non canon, seeing as barney got all the crowbars!

(It got patched oof) --Original Comment-- There is actually a quicker and easier way to skip WGH: (Make sure you've taken a little bit of damage first, the HEV power doesn't matter for this) 1: When getting out of the elevator, don't walk past the trigger that makes the scientist go "FOR GOD SAKE, OPEN THE SILO DOORS!" 2: Shoot the glass off of the Fire Door button, and wait for it to close 1/2 of the way. This way, the scientest cannot leave the area/blow himself up. 3: Run up to the window, and make sure the scientist doesn't go near the door. You can do this by blocking his path and interacting with him so he can heal you a bit. 4: If he says "OH MY GOD WE'RE DOOMED!" while he is healing you, this is a good thing. Otherwise, when he does say it, he will run and when he hits the fire door, he gets glitched out. 5: Interact with him and make him come to the small door, and push him into it. The door should open. Make sure he is inside it before going in. 6: Do this very quickly: Press the Silo Doors Button, grab the ammo if you want, and then do not heal at the first aid station inside the room. Push him back out of the room and exit the room as soon as he does. If he leaves the room and you are still in there, you are locked in there. You are now free to use the Health and HEV Chargers next to the Silo Door, and continue on! I'll make a video showing how to do this in detail.

Honestly pretty happy with myself for knowing all of this minus the fact that crowbar was not just a prop but actually a weapon. I remember waiting for the scientist to do CPR on that guard as a kid.

Despite the fact I have never played and likely will not play Half Life at any moment in my life, I now know how to obtain the second crowbar.

wow i always thought that the crowbar there was a noninteractive model. cycler_sprite or whatever the goldsource equivalent of prop_static is.

Easier way: play all the way up until you’re ambushed by the soldiers. Then once in the crusher don’t pick up the crowbar. Once you escape the crusher climb on the rocks until you find an entrance to get back into black mesa then backtrack all the way back to blast pit and pick up the crowbar

I love the mspaint quality thumbnail, how the video goes from a tutorial style video explaining how to skip the first crowbar to just the man playing hl1 without a crowbar up until blast pit. The end of the video was especially hilarious to me and this video alone has thought me things i didn't know about a game I've played for 100+ hours. And somehow, i have no idea how but somehow, this feels a video from 2007/2009 and like a modern day playthrough of the game at the same time. This my friends is multiple types of video at once. And this my friends, is what i consider to be quality content.

After all these secret features, I did not know they existed. I like how you did these three features, one with guard revival, two with opening the security door and three, basically, crowbar in Blast room. That makes Half-life 3. I guess Valve can count.

I usually push the guard under that falling equipment closet. It’s a bit tricky to avoid the trigger, but Half-Life 1 has a funny mechanic where if you push an NPC that’s not following you, there’s a chance they may turn to look at you and if you’re still looking in the same direction you pushed them, they are gonna turn around and walk a bit more. Usually, it’s enough to get the guard crushed by the closet and get the pistol easily.

That's actually really sweet to learn that the guard wasn't dead, like, for years and years we all thought this guy was just toast, but instead he lived, possibly with Eli and Co until HL2. It honestly encapsulates what I really love about half life's world; it's gone to shit, but there's still good buried in it. I mean, not in this run, but you know what I mean.
