Hi Steve, thank you so much for the tip on the book 'Bikers' Britain'. I just got it in the mail yesterday. I'm preparing a trip from Dover to Edinburg (I live in the Netherlands), were my daughter lives. From there she is going to join me to ride the NC600+ Skye. By the way, I enjoy your videos very much!! Thank you for putting in all the effort 😀 Cheers Dimitri

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I have watched dozens of KZfaq videos on how to use Garmin Base Camp and, after trying for over a year, I gave up! It’s just too complicated to map a route from scratch. I have been using my phone with Google maps up till now which is daft as I have a Garmin satnav on my GS. Thanks to you I’m going to give it another try. Ps: the Missenden Flyer also struggles with Base Camp and uses a prompt sheet to enter each leg his Garmin. Thanks again. John

Good to see a new vid. Great information and you showed us something we didn't know which is the KLM file to Google Earth. Carol is our Basecamp expert and enjoys planning our tours. Must admit we don't normally do a tank bag crib sheet and trust the Garmin to work. This caught us out on our very recent riding visit to Madeira when the Garmin 660 just came up with a message APPROACHING at every turn blocking the instructions! Summer riding is soon with us. Always enjoy your trips. Cheers and take care. Love the Simon Weir books and the last one we followed was a loop out of Moffat.

Always nice to hear from you 2 and think you'll find the KML files do come in handy to check out whats around you while touring. Excellent Steve! Got all Simon Weirs books, a great source of information! I just wish Basecamp still had a link to "View in Google Earth" as it did before. I didn't realise about saving to a file that could load in Google Earth so thanks! I was just using the lat and long from a waypoint and searching on Google Earth. It works, but your way is better! The days are getting longer, spring time just about here, so with all the crap going on in the world, let us all enjoy our freedom, get on our bikes and enjoy the ride! Take care and ride safe!

Cheers for this video Steve. There's more to making a route than you think. So often I end up going down single track roads. I used 'My Route App' it's not too bad, and it's in the cloud so can be accessed on many platforms. My computer is too old for basecamp. I do find sometimes the "perfect" route I made, turns out different on the TomTom satnav. Enjoy your trip, cheers

@Steve-Clark
@Steve-Clark Жыл бұрын
Hi Bryan we did indeed buy vignettes unless you are thinking of riding just back roads ( which would take forever to get there) you save loads of money by having just the one vignette payment instead of a lot of expensive toll charges. Hope that helps.

Nice stuff Steve; always nice to have a plan! Incidentally, you can also upload / import .klm files to Google Maps (you might need to have a Google account). You can still access street view and the info icons for points of interest bring up other useful info too. For example, Linda’s Fish & Chips is open seven days a week 1600-2000. No good for a lunch stop this one 😉. The one for the Rockpool cafe gives a link to their website so you can see the menu in advance. I”m off to Tummel Valley at the end of the month for a few days on your recommendation. Got a great Black Friday deal, 4 nights for £79. Bargain.

Useful video Steve, thanks for sharing some of your tricks and tips. Do you use Base Camp a lot in your planning? I’ve just downloaded it to use with my Nav 6 and have found it a bit of a pig!! Also Lots of horror stories abound as to how tricky it is to use. Just curious. All the best pal 👍👍

Basecamp is my main route planning software for my Nav 6 and think it is so easy but must admit when I first started using it thought it was a nightmare. there are so many KZfaq tutorials on how to plot a route and all sorts which I used as teaching aids, if you stick with it my friend and just ask youtube when you get stuck I'm sure you'll soon be singing its praises. Have thought about doing some tutorials myself but there is everything out there anyway, .

Hi Steve loving the videos especially the scottish ones (and your pronouncations of some of the places) lol, I was the same in Wales by the way. Looking at doing a wee bit more filming on trips, can you advise on the cameras that you use and the drone ? My go-pro is fine but very wide angle and fish eye, would like videos to be a bit better. Thanks pal and stay safe

Hi Ian I use the Drift Ghost S (not made now but available on Ebay) as my main helmet camera and the Drift Stealth 2 as my secondary camera (Dash and back views). Battery life always good with them to. And my drone is the DJI Mavic Pro (Old now but a great bit of kit) Hope that helps mate and ride safe fella.
