Learn how to play a positive Backhand topspin off a backspin ball.
How to improve your Backhand Technique and enhance the stroke you currently play with Sarah Her-Lee and Eli Baraty
A Backhand topspin requires a variety of skills
Thin contact on the ball: the exercise of rolling the ball on the table. enforces thin contact which produces spin.
The second element is contact point on the ball, the more backspin the fast your arm speed must be but also the connection is slightly different depending on the amount of spin your playing again.
Lastly, your body position is essential, this means bending your knees to generate leverage in lifting the ball up and over the net.
Bonus Tip - Losing sight of the ball for a millisecond, therefore you must track the ball for a long as possible. And therefore this means you must commit fully and not hesitate.
Thank you to Sarah Her-Lee

@michaels3708
@michaels3708 Жыл бұрын
demo in the first few seconds on the video clearly shows Sarah has only a little knee bend instead bends forward at the waist to get lower and with perfect timing makes it seems effortless; her stroke is more forward and achieves the lift via the upper body, slight lift from knees, and the upper ward trajectory form the elbow pivot. Mikey PingPong Cloud By not using the exaggerated knee bend Sarah's head is more still (therefore more consistent!) and she can drive the ball forward not up. The exaggerated knee bend is not ideal but can help lift the ball if this is a problem, although if use the knee little and also the upper body and the upper trajectory from the elbow joint then lift should be ok.

Thanks for this great video Eli and Sarah. Nice tip with the rolling ball to lift up. I got the problem, that many balls are landing in the net when I try to use topspin against heavy underspin. Maybe I don‘t use the wrist in the right way or the bat angle is wrong. I will try to improve my backhand strokes with your technique tips. Thanx a lot. ;-)

Do eBaTT have video to counter heavy backspin?
@tellmestraight
@tellmestraight 4 жыл бұрын
The wrist is really important to help generate enough see to lift the backspin ball. Then you just have to pay attention as to how much backspin is there. The more backspin the more towards 9 o'clock you need to make contact. It also matters how fast you are trying to hit it. If you are hitting it harder/faster then you will need to move up a bit towards 10 o'clock.
@kevins3646

One thing I found eluding me was the brush contact. Based on this and another one of ur videos I was using the wrist , knee bend however still was not getting the brush contact. Because of lack of good foot work on serves based on what my gym coach had suggested someone else with similar problems as mine and was asked to use backhand serves which put lower emphasis on service recovery food work , based on that I switched to making serves using backhand instead of forehand. The accidental gain has been gaining the brush contact on back hand loop against back spin. I suspect it is similar to rolling the ball on the table that u have show, however without a practice partner I think using the backhand serve.to learn brush contact might be the only option.

Sir, vary good video, Sir, please upload a video of respected Sarah madam teaching backhand top spin rally against back hand top spin ball received from opponent, as i think first i should learn their regular backhand top spin to develop the hand and later on convert it to backspin ball. my hand movement seems similar to madam, so i need their backhand top spin video as rally practice against normal backhand/top spin ball receiving from opponent side (not underspin ball).

I noticed the Australian/NZ players seem to emphasize free motion and whip of the wrist with the Backhand shot. Whereas, other regions in the world (particularly the Chinese) seem to be afraid to follow through at the wrist and stop it with a short jerky motion. For example: Fan Zhendong and Ma Long. I definitely like the natural whip motion demonstrated here in this video!

Agree... It seems like this is the "Euro" style where the wrist is allowed to extend.
@henriki8015

IMHO, it is a longer follow through, in this demo, I guess. Fan has a fantastic backhand with superb acceleration towards the contact point. He can keep it short and get more time to be ready for the next shot. I think this is very important at top level. When I look at fast bh-bh exchanges, my impression is that whoevwr is faster to recover wins the point .

So many players make a huge mistake trying to backhand topspin HEAVY underspin balls in a match. Why would you try the most riskiest shot known to man. I have personally grown up playing in an era of so many defenders and trying to dictate with backhand topspin against backspin is a recipe for disaster. Leave this shot for only the highest level of players who also struggle against a decent defender on occasions. The technique described here is fine against slight backspin or a defenders float ball and gives you another attack option also.
