Great job on these tutorials David. Love what you’re bringing to the table here for fingerstyle blues instruction. I used to follow you a little on “wholenote” back in the day. So glad I re-found you here! Thanks 🙏

Love your channel brother. Just wanted to throw this out there cause you mentioned a family of tunes, this progression in the piano world is almost exclusively known as the New Orleans progression. Tipitina, junkers blues, there’s like a hundred of them.
@FretboardConfidential2 жыл бұрын
Wow, yes, of course!! I was thinking primarily about the melody being the connection between all the ones I mentioned, but I love the New Orleans piano stuff and did not even think to make that connection in terms of those being built on similar eight-bar chord progressions as well. Thanks for the reminder!

Just found your channel ... excellent playing and lesson, one I'm going to spend some time on. Your playing looks so effortless which I know it's not ... out of curiosity are you playing 11's or 12's?
@FretboardConfidential2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Malcolm! They're 12's. But the 00-18 is a short-scale guitar, which makes the 12's feel springier (to me anyway) than they would on a dreadnought or other long-scale instrument.
@malcolmbenn10512 жыл бұрын
@@FretboardConfidential Hi David, thanks for the response. The scale length aspect had slipped my mind but that would sure help with the first and second position bends with the index finger. I'll need to spend some time digging through your channel ... I love your playing, great touch .. not a style I get to hear much anymore.

I can't help but notice that ALL the blues players that wear hats are self obsessed vainglorious dorks. They very often play good music, but it's the vanity that pisses me off, and I can't take them seriously however good they play.
@FretboardConfidential2 жыл бұрын
Well, let's take this apart. Dork? Clearly, if I'm devoting this kind of time to a musical form that hasn't been commercially significant in nearly a hundred years. Self-absorbed? Again,that's a given if I think enough of my opinions to routinely publish them on KZfaq. As for vanity and hats - I can't speak for all the other hat-wearing blues musicians out there, but in my case, I wear a hat *because* I'm vain.
@joepassfan2 жыл бұрын
I think David's work is amazing and generous.
@UmVtCg2 жыл бұрын
I tend to play a better blues when wearing a hat. I advise you get one.
@scottmacdonald18262 жыл бұрын
My initial reaction to this comment was to make some disparaging comment, but if someone wearing a hat is impacting your ability to enjoy music, you might have some form of personality disorder like OCPD. This stuff can be managed, often without the use of medication. I would look into it. Again, I'm not being mean. If something minor is impacting your ability to enjoy something and it can be easily fixed, you should do it.
@jysmtl2 жыл бұрын
And I can’t take seriously vainglorious self-indulgent trollers who have nothing of substance to say. The vanity of such comments really pisses me off. Just go elsewhere if you are so bothered. David is least vain net teacher I’ve run across. More importantly, he’s also the best.
