Well I have been playing the 1st min over and over for an hour! Mesmerizing! ALl jokes aside I am so glad I watched this, I have relegated myself to Townes and Foley songs, this just blew the door wide open. I appreciate you taking the time and having the ability and gift to teach this.

I agree with David Florez, one of the best fingerpicking lessons I've seen in a long time. Very clear and detailed, plus gives you something to use on other songs besides Freight Train. I'm not all that big on playing the blues, but some of the techniques here will be very useful for other genres so not limited to just blues.

I'm a subscriber to Fretboard confidential - are you going to incorporate these ideas into Big Surly?
@FretboardConfidential4 күн бұрын
Hi Mark! I didn't work this particular lick into the material but we are going to spend all of August working on how to improvise blues licks over a walking bass line on the I, IV and V chord, specifically as it applies to the "Big Surly" chord progression.

yes Josh white was the inpsiratioin - havign listened to them all - ps I have started playing my own punchy funky arrangment as i am growing tired (good as it was ) of the animals version - when i think of how many versioins (and genres there are of "sitting on top of the world" or "make me a pallet on your floor" or "kansas city blues" - it is surprising how some songs never get out of the one arrangement groove. your version here inspried me to do something different . i do get some funny looks . I do like variation, novelty and surprises.

I have very limited knowledge of the spectrum of Blues music and a couple of times it jams. I've ended up playing one ball Blues and I kept waiting for the music to change 😁 But I have no idea what I was playing. can anyone here point me in the direction of must learn one bar Blues please? I have had no joy in finding anything on KZfaq, but maybe I'm just not asking the right questions

thank you for an excellent and informative lesson. I don't have the greatest of musical ears and And I don't recognise many chord shapes So I will set myself the task to find a guide to the chord structures of these songs although I will put them on and try to play along with them but that is never easy for me One song that confused me when I played it. it's a blues Jam was Mary had a Little lamb which I think is 12 bars in the introduction and eight bars for the song. and yes, I was really thrown by that 😁

Hey! Just wanted to let you know I've been playing guitar for about 20 years and your videos focusing on travis picking have given me a whole new challenge to play through. Thanks! It's been extremely fun. I've been trying to combine this technique with a double thumb/thumping technique.
