The very first game I ran as storyteller I had a player ask "when would it be unhelpful to tell the truth?" And I responded back with "giving an empath with an evil neighbor a zero because they're drunk. The next night their good neighbor dies so the correct number is still a 1 but if I show them a 1 they'll think their new neighbor is evil." Low and behold that player was the empath that game. And he had the fear of God in him every time I woke him up with a new number. 😈

I had a game where the storyteller telling a player the truth when poisoned helped me out so much. I was the poisoner, and I screwed with the fortune teller by poisoning them twice. The first time they checked me and another player and got shown one of us was the demon. Then they checked themself and me and got shown neither of us was the demon (correct info). So that got the other player voted out, but also when it came down to me and the scarlet woman (turned demon) to vote out on the last day, the village thought the fortune teller was only poisoned for the SECOND bit of info and I was the demon, giving us the win!

I think it seems a little OP. You can basically control the outcome of the game.

@@eraserewrite That's the point because they are the storyteller. They have as much power as a game master with the goal of making a good experience. Games will often go to the last 3 because of that fact if no one succeeds at using their game ending ability. It's also why mayors won't die most of the time even if they technically aren't guaranteed to deflect the demon attacks.

Hey, thanks for your questions. I'll answer in two comments. Determining how much time to wait before calling for nominations is more art than science. You want to give your players time to strategise each day, but you want to keep the game moving along at a decent pace so that it doesn't go over-long and tire people out. In the early days of a game, your players will want more time to talk, but they'll thank you at the end when the game hasn't gone forever. So, give them time to do a decent bit of talking and strategising, but always leave them wanting a little more. As a rule of thumb, I tend to do longer days towards the start of the game and then shorter days as the game progresses and there are fewer revelations. The final day might go a bit longer again, as this is typically the time that the good team will cease any bluffs they were still using and reveal who they all are, publicly to the group. I generally set a private timer each day before calling for nominations, just to remind myself to check in on the state of the town rather than call for nominations at that exact time - it's just to make sure I don't accidentally space out and let the day run too long. (I usually do five or six minutes for day one, then scale it down to three or four minutes after a day or two, but you'll find what works best for your group and your style.) - Evin

For drunkenness and poisoning: Typically, with one or two exceptions, 'drunkenness' is associated with good roles and 'poisoning' is associated with Evil roles. There's no real need for the distinction of these in the rules, but they're thematically very different things and are a more fun way to play the game. Deus Ex Fiasco *is* a potentially in-development Fabled role, but it's not really fully ready yet. The intention behind it is to make new Storytellers more comfortable with the prospect of making a storytelling mistake, or to give veteran Storytellers a bit of cover when they make a mistake *or* when they really want to mess with their players. :) - Evin

The evil team wins when just two players are left alive. In Trouble Brewing, the first script most people will play in BOTC, one of these two players will always be the demon. In other scripts, the demon will also typically be one of these two players. However there are special circumstances, such as with the Evil Twin, where Evil can win with two players left alive without either of them being the demon - in the case of the twins, if just the two of them are left alive then the evil team wins. The reason this video mentions the demon being in the final two is that it's a better way of intuitively communicating what the goal of the evil team is in Trouble Brewing, and indeed in most games of Blood on the Clocktower. The aim of these videos is to make sure new players can easily and intuitively understand the broad concepts of the game and get them playing quickly. By the time they're ready to move on to Sects & Violets or Bad Moon Rising, they'll be ready to take on extra rules, exceptions, etc, such as the Evil Twin. - Evin

It's similar to those games, but there are some key difference. In Blood on the Clocktower, dead players are never eliminated. They stay in the game, haunting the town as ghosts. They can still talk, share what they know, or (if they're evil) lie from beyond the grave.
