Ummm, he films from a single angle and offers absolutely no other visual aids at all. His version is excellent no doubt. But some visual aids would have made this a more successful tutorial. Not everyone can just stare at a fretboard and be able to spontaneously call out any and every note on it. It would have been much simpler and more effective if he'd have just put up some tab bars or chord diagrams to accompany what he was saying. Without those the explanation just starts to get too cumbersome.

No... that's why he does these vids, to show us apemen that we can do it, it is possible, even if it seems beyond our reach. Stretch a little, have faith, practice, get it wrong, it doesn't matter! Have a go! And again, and again, and again... this is one of those songs where you have to let it come to you, you know how it sounds, just make the sound - you can do it! BTW, the genius part comes in writing it in the first place! Thankfully we don't have to jump over that bar!

@@michaelgallagher3640 actually no.. some just give you a cliff notes version..some do not do it just as the album is but they give you a condensed version or sometimes a different key.. what you have to understand is Andy has been teaching music for a very long time and playing for many years. but not only that he enjoys figuring out the ways that the artist did it back in the day and trying to replicate it as close as possible.. not turn it into a bar band version. and in a certain way Andy could almost be considered a perfectionist; and that's a good thing..some people just like to do it their way. how they think it sounds some people are not completely trained also and they just basically well you can decide for yourself...how many times have I seen some people playing something and giving a lesson and using completely the wrong fingering in a whole lot of other stuff and say no don't worry about it it's fine.. to say there beet red with jealousy I highly doubt that🤔👎👎

Why is it that so much of the time it happens that I watch these instructional videos and feel the desire to both go play my guitar and at the same time light it on fire and stop trying to play at all! The first time I watched the compilation of SRV playing on Austin City Limits was the first time I had that feeling. It's both inspiring and humiliating at the same time to see someone play on such a high level. You and Ryan Lendt are the 2 best instructors on YT imo. I really feel like putting on a paisley shirt and lighting up a big spliff. Oh, yeah and playing that just as good as Andy (dreaming away here...) before partaking in said spliff !! What a hoot of a jug song.!!

This song is brilliant. Pure respect to Jimmy Page, the God of Guitar Licks. And you sir, are a master at your craft. The others pale in comparison. Please consider my donation a small token of my appreciation.

Really great lesson, which is thoroughly explained throughout. I also tried it in Open G, and it sounds great as well. I appreciate you posting this lesson, from Jim in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I really only got through to the part where you displayed the tuning on the screen. At that point I started messing around and realized this tuning is practically a cheat code. I'll continue now.

Hey, I was wondering what you meant by "this tuning is a cheat code"? :)
@CircusMonkeyMafia
@CircusMonkeyMafia 4 жыл бұрын
@@venkyn9209 if you mess up and hit an open string inadvertently, it'll go right along with whatever you're doing. It's a bit like a safety net. You can get really wild and aggressive with little chance of hitting a sour note.

Incredible job, amazing, yada yada ;) . Now for "Black Mountain Side" to cover all of Jimmy's great acoustic instrumentals. Only 2 minutes long! :) And a bid for his self-proclaimed masterpiece, "Achilles Last Stand" (much longer unfortunately).

Check out Bert Jansch's Black Waterside....the original which Jimmy Page copied. I'm sure there are videos on here which will show how it's played too.

One of my fave Zep tunes! Yeah, Page definitely took the core riffs of this song from Bert Jansch's "Wagoner's Lad." But at the same time he and Plant turned it into a better song than "Wagoner's Lad" ever was. That's the dichotomy of Led Zeppelin-- incredible musicians who weren't always totally honest about where their material came from.

It's got to be noted that Wagonner's lad was itself taken from a traditional tune.

Jimmy Page didn't steal anything. He improved upon a traditional piece. "I like that and I do it better." Ha! Btw, it's "stolen" not "stole." :)
@AbbeyRoadkill1
@AbbeyRoadkill1 4 жыл бұрын
@@augmentedkeys5971 I think it's fair to say that in this case Zep was not guilty of plagiarism, so maybe 'stole' is too strong a word. That's not to say Zep was never guilty of plagiarism. Jake Homes' "Dazed & Confused" is probably the most egregious example. BTW, it's "steal," not "still." ✌

Lovely and well done. I learned this song from the 'How The West Was Won' live version which was in open G but the open F sounds much better to my ears and is what the studio version uses. I picked up some nice nuances from your lesson so thanks very much!
