Ian, 83 years old from Scotland. I love your teaching style and your enthusiasm is so infectious and a joy to watch. I'm trying to learn this beautiful piece of Chopin that your teaching us. You said once you can memories the left hand it should all slip into place. well learning the left hand and learning the right hand is not a particular problem for me. The tricky bit for me is the timing with hand coordination and you say nothing about that. I don't read music so to get the coordination right I try to play both hands together and watch the order you place your fingers in. This is maybe weird but it works for me. So if I can only get you to slow down your beautiful wee fingers Then I'll be able to work out the rest. I'd be most grateful

Yes!! My favorite Chopin piece and also what got me wanting to get back into piano a few years ago. So glad you gave us a "simplified" version. I tried learning the big boy version a couple years ago but this is one of the sneakiest difficult songs. It sounds relatively straight forward and is a nice slow tempo, but goddamn, the timing, the feel, and being in Eb make it so hard to get down. Hopefully I have a less curse word-infused go at this version!

This reminded me of the first time I heard this Chopin piece. I was 10, and I was chaperoning by mother at night to the Chinese movie theater. It was pretty standard practice that when the heroine is laid in the hospital bed and everyone in the background is crying and then this Chopin piece comes in you know she is not going to make it. 😭 Well, time to go shopping and get some more Kleenex, if I am going to learn how to play this Chopin piece. 😢😢😢 Thank you for the lesson in teaching us this piece of music from Chopin. Take care and be safe. 🙏🙏🙏

Thank you SO much for this!!! I really appreciate it. I played some piano many years ago as a novice and decided to get back into it now due to the availability of videos like this on KZfaq. This is the first piece I chose to try and play and I would have never been able to do it without this video and your teaching techniques. The caption says it’s for beginners and intermediate players. I know it’s a simplified version but it sure seemed mighty hard to me but I’m glad I stuck with it. For sure it’s intermediate at least. Such a beautiful piece and I would never be able to play it without your help. Thank you again.❤

Great tutorial,but certainly not for beginners...I'm in my 5th year of piano,and this tutorial is just perfect for an intermediate as me...I struggled too much with the original(rated grade 8 ABRSM),got discouraged and found your arrangement which sounds just as well....Need a couple of more years of learning before I can tackle the original,according to my instructor ....However if you love Chopin's Nocturne,Nocturne n.20 in C# minor is achieavable in its original version for graders 5 or 6....Thanks again for your work,Lisa....

Whats the curve over the notes? How do you now they are black keys when theries no signs next to the notes?
@sleepy4205Ай бұрын
Do you play the piano? Or are you a beginner? I suggest that you learn the fundamentals before trying to play this piece, because it isn’t easy to learn if you are just a beginner, considering that you dont know how to play sharps and flats, you’ve probably only played the piano for less than a month, this video is for beginners-intermediate, that probably have been practicing for around 6 months-1 year. But anyways heres the answer to your question, at the start of the staff (the 5 lines) there are a few symbols, you have to play the black keys if your notes align with the symbol at the start of the staff, for more help find tutorials on sharps and flats, and the curves are called ties and slurs, search them up. Hope this helps, but if you want to try to play this piece you should try getting to a slightly more advanced level, maybe 6 months more of consistent learning and practicing and you’ll get there
@sleepy4205Ай бұрын
Also this arrangement is maybe a little too hard for your level, if you really want to play this piece, I suggest you go check out the simplified version by “betacustic”, its much more easier than this one

No no no. If you can’t play. Then you need to build up to it. Don’t concrete in your mind the wrong way to play something. It only hurts you as a serious pianist
@satyamsinghh Жыл бұрын

@e.castlerock8454 Жыл бұрын
@pilotdrift05 - I understand your point; however, if you know you're not planning on being a concert pianist, there's nothing wrong with learning a simplified version if it's a piece you really want to play. If you do become more accomplished, you can learn the piece as originally written. I know from experience that something I have learned well doesn't stay in my memory if I don't play it regularly. Therefore, if I learn this simplified version now and then decide to learn the original, it's not like I have to "unlearn" this. I just start anew.
@nethfellearnspiano9655 Жыл бұрын
@pilotdrift05 Have you looked at piano method books like Alfreds or Hal Leonard? Their content - both in the lesson books and in the performance books that associate with the specific lesson level have simplified versions of music pieces for people to learn/work through as they gain experience. There is no reason a person couldn't learn the "easy" version now if their skills will allow and later when they have the appropriate skillset work on the "official" version.
@SuperWils2010 Жыл бұрын
Simplified versions of pieces can sound very pretty. They can be a joy to learn and also tend to be shorter, so can be suitable for when practise/performance time is short. For beginners, simplified versions can be part of the repertoire that builds skill sets whilst providing much enjoyment. I learnt Lisa's simplest version of Nocturne in Eb from her 'Chopin' video. It's short and sweet and dreamy joy to play. My family and friends agree that it's a beautiful arrangement that's simple yet elegant.
@e.castlerock8454 Жыл бұрын
@@SuperWils2010 - Is that version even more simplified than this version? Maybe that's the one I should learn.
