A note on the video! Something which I noticed afterward was my tendency to “release” the club more after impact. This is something Mickleson also does around the green. Although I should have pointed it out more 👍❤️

@Tucson Jim Despite opening his body and his club face, Mickelson swings along the target line. Swinging along your open shoulder line will cause the cut that you described. He mentions that in one of his videos, but almost in passing. He will swing along his shoulder line to hit a deliberate cut, as here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fLqGqaafytTcYYE.html
@msalzberg4962
@msalzberg4962 3 жыл бұрын
@Tucson Jim Depending on the lie, distance to green, and distance to the flag, I use either method. I prefer the hinge and hold for getting a longer run out, and if I'm three feet off the green, and the pin is six feet on the green, I'll use almost a putting stroke to get the ball to pop up and then stop quickly. I use my regular grip on everything but my putter.
@msalzberg4962
@msalzberg4962 3 жыл бұрын
@Tucson Jim Yes, I can see how when the only thing I wrote I wrote about my grip is "I use my regular grip on everything but my putter" you could get confused and think I change my grip when chipping.

Playing from a 2 in earlier years, I found my 60 degree very versatile. Now that I'm older and 'wiser' on the golf course, I use a lot more of these techniques by moving the ball around and different wedges. With the flop shot I remember David Leadbetter advising to have a very weak right hand grip to stop your hands from 'turning over'. Great video as always Peter.

Great video Pete. And really good results from you on these shots. Tbh, I haven't had a whole lot of success with hinge and hold because of how steep it is and because for me success seems to equate to keeping my wrists free of tension through impact. As soon as I try to control that wrist angle I tend to stick it in the ground. Even so, I'm going to cherry pick some of these ideas and see what happens!

My short game is all Lefty inspired: Back in high school, Phil was the only lefty a lefty could follow that got any attention. So, using my only wedge, a 52* American Open low bounce, I learned to use it for just about any shot I had from a 130 yards in. Nowadays, I have a few more wedges, and yes, that includes a 64*, and love my 60* PM grind; it's absolute money from bunkers. That may be why some of my playing partners say "I hate you" after some of the shots I hit with it^^ Needless to say, but great video Pete...much enjoyed.
