This can also be played with a capo on the 2nd fret. Chords are G D Am and in the chorus at the end of the 2nd "fade into you" it goes to a C

i think it's nothing without hitting the bass strings really hard. I can live without the slide guitar. The best and most famous live version of this song has no slide guitar and it sounds perfect.

I'm wondering the same. They were my favorite band in my teens but they've never reached commercial success beyond that song (they didn't want it or liked it). I'm guessing the recent revival of 90s nostalgia brought all these songs out. I've recently heard it used in a TV show (Cruel Summer) and a Gucci commercial. And apparently Kelly Clarkson covers it a lot. My other thought is because it has this "sad girl" vibe that's popular with female singers today (ex. Lana del Rey, Billie Eillish) I don't know what Hope and David (RIP) would think about their song being popular again but I'm glad it's getting attention again.

Maybe because miley cyrus sang it a few years ago, and then her song Flowers came out which made her number one in the world, and then people have been reverse listening to miley's progression. Anyways, that's what I went through and I was obsessed with PLASTIC HEARTS album. That album is a gem! Punk and power vocals.
