Thanks for this video Sophie, I'm sending it straight to my daughter. She's 15 and just started learning last month. She has three passions. Heavy metal, makeup, and clothes, possibly in that order, so I guess you will be really inspirational for her! The stuff on modal scales would be a bit advanced for her but the first half on three notes per string is great advice, as she's learning the typical "box" method now. She'll take advice from you so much more than from me, so hopefully she'll become a dedicated follower of your channel and learn lots from you. Cheers!

5.32-5.36 represents hundreds (probably thousands) of hours practice. So bear in mind newbies, it only looks easy because it’s been practiced many, many times, slowly, over years. Anyone can play this well if they’re prepared to put in the effort. Unfortunately we won’t all end up being articulate, attractive blondes. BUT, we can all become better guitarists if we’re patient and diligent. This lady displays such dedication with perfect technique and a great teaching style. Wonderful job, thank you.

Great Vid Sophie. Great for those at an Intermediate level who have started playing with scales and want to get from there to the end game of learning to solo with them. In relation to your comment, yes I would love to see a modal video lesson. Would love to see how you use this soloing. To others in the comments, don't let it scare you. practice the scale as she covers in the first couple of minutes, over and over, and as you get comfortable with it, you'll gain more speed and more confidence. Getting from the beginning to Sophie s skill level is not a 2 hour quest on how to learn guitar, it takes dedication and practice for a couple of years. But a little patience and you'll get there. Keep it up Sophie!, great vid!

There is alot more to music than 64th notes my friend, and alot to be said for having the ability to actually sing, and play well simultaneously. A good musician could tug on your heart strings with a simple melody on a toy guitar with a heartfelt vocal. I got some great advice from one of the greats when I was a kid. I could play lightning fast, and thought that was the ultimate. The advice he gave me was "There's more soul and feeling in a single bend played from your heart than there is in 64th notes played from your mind".

It is hard to find a straightforward breakdown of patterns/scales that are broken down to match the way riffs work sonically. Especially fast playing. So, the fact you broke it down visually, physically and technically is one of the better teaching tools I’ve seen. Even pros skip over speed playing. The patterns and how they work are rarely explained. So having played a long time now, I have always been stuck in learning how to how to navigate scales accurately to get the texture I like while playing them clean. Well done! Thank you! If you could also go over timing, how to play in time would also be helpful.

You showed up totally randomly in my feeds and i'm glad i clicked. This is a very well explained use of the modal system, provided the fact that some of ur viewers (not all of them apparently) have already experienced or dived a bit into modes. There are tonnes of videos out there explaining modes that are confusing (Gambale included). The only one that enlightened me and got me started was a video from Rob Chapmann. I'd be for a videos explaining modes your own way or give a first step to experience it , just so people start to understand that the "minor" scale is not a different scale, just a major scale with a different chord progression and starting point. Anyway, that's how i see it today. I'm sure u'd do a great job explaining it your own way. Keep up the good work this channel deserves to get bigger.

the examples for different excersices for the scale you offered were good but the part where you were explaining how to use the scale in a modal context was really really great. It was explained simply so it would make sense for even musicians who are not too familiar with music theory and there was just no unnecessary digressing or over complification. That part was one of the best short guitar tutorials I've seen so far. kudos

That was actually helpful. I tried combining the 3 notes per string with the pentatonic of the relative minor and it worked great! Thank you!

You rule! That was a very eye opening video. I’ve never heard modes, string skipping, 3 notes per string explain so simply!!

Thank you, I'd like to see more lessons - that was beyond my current level, but I am motivated to pick the guitar up more regularly again and then come back and watch again when it isn't. I understood the theory as you explained it and would certainly watch more of this type of content thanks.

I've seen a lot of guitar teachers on KZfaq rambling and not teaching anything. This girl really did help me get better. And I can get better at guitar while looking at a stunning girl instead of some balding dude, thanks KZfaq.

Super helpful! Been a “box player” for 30 years, thinking about three notes per string in a new light after this!! Thanks, Sophie!
