I have made a strength based wizard once. Was a gith war wizard. So he had a greatsword. Did the war wizard thing cause they seemed anti magic, and figured it would fit for a gith, who fights mind flayers. Then my player who was running the one shot said "is that asta from black clover?" And I had to look it up and then got upset.

A balanced fusion mechanic is my golden goose when it comes to D&D home brew. There *has* to be a way to make it work, I just know it.
@baxterbruce98273 жыл бұрын
As a base for how it could happen in vanilla D&D, I suggested looking Twinned True Polymorph, no one said that if you twin it you can't combine the targets, I guess that depends on DM ruling though
@trissmordain3 жыл бұрын
Tbf 5e is based around action economy, if you're taking one entire character-set of actions out of the equation it's harder to make it too powerful. You could also just rule that when characters fuse they combine their levels (but not spells known), and then add that if a player wants to play a fusion from the start, they have to have their fusion components split their total levels.
@baxterbruce98273 жыл бұрын
@@trissmordain Makes sense, the hus is actually similar to how Gestalt characters work
@RobertBass3 жыл бұрын
@@trissmordain Playing a fusion from the start is one thing, I'd say you could probably do it with some really weird racial stats (I believe older versions of D&D had playable races that involved basically being a single character with two bodies, so you could probably get inspiration from that). Freeform fusion between characters is the real end goal here. Your point about the action economy is true to the point where I almost feel like any real workable solution has to involve keeping the total number of turns the same.
@RobertBass3 жыл бұрын
It's a delicate balancing act, really. IMO any sort of bizarre new mechanic has to be: - Good enough that it's worth doing, but with some sort of downside or limitation such that it's not worth doing all the time - Simple enough mechanically that it can be done on the fly with little confusion, but with enough unique stuff that it feels like a special event - Potentially open enough to allow for extensions/improvements via subclasses/feats/racial abilities/etc., depending on how much work you want to put in. Probably more than someone of my skill level can handle, but that's why it's the golden goose.

Shouldn't charisma and dex be swapped? Haven't watched the whole thing but Garnet is agile but she's definitely the most quiet character in a world where everyone sings Edit: charisma wasn't even used in the build, whereas dex would still be needed as she's very much not a spell-focused fighter. They should be swapped. How can someone who has phone anxiety and can jump 50 feet standing have worse dex than charisma?
@majickman3 жыл бұрын
Yeah her people skills are... not the best.

I am honestly surprised that the idea of fusion as a ritual or spell/spell like ability has never been thought of or done for D&D. Maybe someone should come up with it and see what people think. Fusion I could see as a type of ritual of sorts.
@mattpluzhnikov5193 жыл бұрын
I'll admit it's not something I've thought about, like, at all, but my gut reaction/reasoning for it not being, even this late in the game, much of an explored concept, is that conceptually, the game operates more around individual characters working together, as a team. Fusion may include the sort of cohesive teamwork aspect that a party would benefit from, but takes it to a whole other level, as The Self (to various degrees of temporariness) ceases to exist...in a sense... Add to that, that it'd be a liiiiittle tricky to have players each have their own character (sheet), but then they'd have to create another character, and work out the stats, spells, and skills together, AND then would have to work even more closely together than your usual run-of-the-mill party cooperation to decide said character's actions and choices......... (Sorry if I ended up failing to get my point across. *shrug*)

I think he left Steven out for reason. He is very spoiler-heavy. Garnet is warforged, Pearl is a High elf or half-elf, Amethisth is dwarf or some other small race and barb with polymorph. Steven is like three different builds across the series. So is understandable if he is just opt-out. I am also okay with making gem different races because as state they were designed with the very specific build and are not suppose to cross with each other. So make sense there essentially different species the gem stuff is like nationality/origin/background lore nonsense in D&D. .

What if it was half-orc time! Pros: strength and con are really useful for this build (finally), so we're off to a good start for once. Relentless endurance means you can stay in the fight longer (and would make an interesting contingency condition). Also the lore making you two half-orcs fused into one? Very hot. The party were only LVL 8 ish at this point. And by just before the fight the sorcerer put haste on him, one of the clerics put bless on him while the other put warding bond on him and the paladin had shield of faith on himself. although I understand the whole "reserving the right to use other races later" thing I'd argue that Warforged is a perfect choice to play any of the Gems (except maybe Steven, but that's more because there isn't really a "Half-Warforged" race. the stat layout is fairly good for literally any anything. +2 con mechanically will never really sting that much because HP is good for everyone. and being able to put your secondary boost into whatever is good. and lorewise, gems basically ARE warforged, just with hard light pseudoscience instead of literal robots

I'm currently playing a Warforged Rune Knight, and I think Rune Knight could be a great alternative to Champion. Giant Might would probably work better than Enlarge/Reduce because it's not a spell and doesn't require concentration. And Uvar allows you to enter into a prophetic state, forcing advantage or disadvantage on rolls as a reaction. The other options are mostly in character as well, and all of the saving throws are based on INT.
