Although this is the Chinese version, this still has helped me a lot with the Japanese version in Yakuza/Judgement. I still don't know enough to win a game yet, even after watching countless different guides, but I feel my knowledge has increased greatly with this video in particular.

When I first learned Hong Kong mahjong some years ago, I was taught that if I can only play one suit at a time meaning I'm not allowed to mix the suits in one game. Also, once I've decided on which suit to play, I must decide on whether I want to chi or pong with that suit as I can only choose one or the other. This forces the player to stratagise from the start by observing the tiles discarded from the other players and also to mask their own moves and try to mislead others.

Is it right after the leader throw his/her first tile at the start of the game or is it when every one has picked up their first tile from the first draw wall?

Question: When someone makes a 'pong', they discard a tile so they have 13 again. Now, is it still their turn? Or is it the person on the right's turn now? Also, my set doesn't have animal tiles :/ do you need the animal tiles and flowers to play this style? Very nice video! Looking forward to seeing the scoring system video!
@MrMojojojojojojo3 жыл бұрын
To answer your question, once a player calls a pong and throws his tile, it’s the next person’s turn (the one on his right). Animal tiles are only applicable for singaporean style mahjong; most mahjong styles do not have animal tiles, so unless you want to play singaporean rules, it is okay if your set does not have them.

So whats the purpose of the animal and flower tiles if you are just going to get rid of them every time you have them/drew them? and also what if both players says "Pong" at the same time?
@mahjong10193 жыл бұрын
1. The animal and flowers tile are for points (which will be explained further in future videos) 2. There is no way that could happen: When a player shouts 'pong' it means that the player has 2 identical tiles and a similar one has been discarded by another player. Since there are only 4 identical tiles of each tile in every deck, it is not possible to have 2 players shouting pong at the same time

@mahjong10193 жыл бұрын
Well, if you think of it from a logical perspective. If you throw a tile that can be anything, doesn't it mean that anyone can 'pong' and this will disrupt the game flow (as there is one additional tile on the floor). Furthermore, this go against "pong" rule which states that anyone can "pong" regardless of who threw it

The flower pile must always be 5 stacks?
@ssanimess3 жыл бұрын
No, the flower pile is determined by the number indicated by the dice rolled by the host. Players would draw flower tiles from the flower pile following the sequence and move on to the next wall when necessary in the opposite direction.
@awolf9133 жыл бұрын
I’m confused at 4:25 the host was drawing 4 tiles from your wall after running out of tiles on his wall. Why your wall and not anyone else?
@kennedyo34713 жыл бұрын
Because when you draw tiles you always begin from the head of the pile, which is from right to left. Except for flower pile, it goes in the reverse direction. Everytime you draw from either side of the pile, it has to be in sequence. So that’s why you can’t simply skip any tiles.
@awolf9133 жыл бұрын
Kennedy O thank you. Also is there ever a situation where all the tiles have run out and nobody has won? I ask because what if during drawing and discarding tiles, players have forgot to cal pong or chow when they could’ve which could result in this?
