I just wanted to thank you for this Lesson. This is my Wife's favorite song to sing and I am going to be playing it at her surprise 40th this weekend! She bought me my first guitar for Xmas, so I had to learn quickly and this lesson, along with the others you have posted, have helped me accomplish this!

The way you teach/ describe strumming...SO much easier then the UUDDUD thing others use. Thank you so much. Strumming while singing along is something I am really struggling with.

Thank you for this, bit cheeky of me but i sent this to my guitarist who plays in my band as I wanna do it duo, me singing with harmonica, him playing guitar. He is a guitar teacher too..but hey it's not as easy as it looks...I find i'm doing alot of bar counting.

Actually I love this song, but I never managed to play it in a rhythmic way. Now when I stumbled over your video, I realized that it might be because always the accent is on the 2nd beat :-) Thanks for explaining and you're right: we should learn to hear that by ourselves. Will work on it.

I love your lessons! The way you are playing the intro does have a C chord, but it is voiced differently than the way C is normally played on guitar. It feels like a G in the hand, and sounds a lot like like the Gsus, as you point out. But, it is a secondary inversion of C, with the "fifth" of the C (being G) as the bass note (and also the highest note on the 6th string). I would not call it a G chord because it lacks the B and the D. But, I am sure you knew that!

Erich, Great video, but credit where credit is due. Janis had the hit record ,but many people recorded it before she did. Gordon Lightfoot comes to mind & of course Kris Kristopherson who wrote the song.

The third line got a little butchered - "Feelin' near as faded as my jeans", meaning the jeans are old, tired, and just about worn out, and the singer is feeling the same.

Your thumb confuses me . dam . Either I have to small a neck on my thumb or fat guitar . Either way . Hmm I stopped learning right there . Sorry .
