She's good at explaining, but she's certainly not a good player. Notice how she cords every step of the way, places every flag and doesn't fill out patterns as she goes? That's something you only see in beginners, not that there's anything wrong with that. If you give it a week or two, getting your first expert complete won't be a tall order and it's likely you'll be somewhere around the 250 second mark. For reference, my first complete expert was 274 seconds, got to 150 in a week after that and now, a year later, I'm sitting at 78. Won't take you long man, good luck.

A great minesweeper player wouldn't use as many redundant flags. You can save on clicks and time by being careful about which squares to flag and which to just ignore. In general you want to use the flag only when it would save you clicks. That said, not flagging also largely removes the ability to keep count of how many mines left, which could allow you to deduce where some of the last mines are in some situations.

The sheer speed she's doing this though is wild. It's like watching a river flow!

If you like the idea of a puzzle game that doesn't explain itself, I highly recommend The Witness. The rules of the puzzles are never explicitly explained. You have to find simple puzzles you can solve by trial and error and infer the rules from them, which then allows solving more complex puzzles. It's brilliant.

Before she started flitting from place to place, narrating her train of thought constantly switching tracks, she said that the number on each square represents how many of the (up to) eight squares immediately around it have bombs. When the number of covered squares (flagged/unrevealed) around a number equals said number, all of those squares are bombs; you can/should flag them by right-clicking on them. I think most of what she didn't bother to explain, "this is a 2, so these are bombs", was this sort of situation, partly because it's such a common situation in minesweeper that she'd have sounded horribly repetitive if she did continue to explain it after the first 30 seconds, and partly because it's such a "simple" situation that an experienced person will assume an inexperienced person won't have trouble following. I think she explained most of the techniques she used at least the first time she used them (but it might have been too muddled to follow in some cases). She (should have) said clicking with both mouse buttons on a revealed square, if it has the right number of flags around it, will reveal all the unflagged squares around it-rewatching, she stuttered enough that I think she misspoke at that part. She showed that if the square doesn't have enough flags around it, clicking with both buttons presses the surrounding squares down but they pop back up without revealing anything (because when there are too few flags, revealing all the unflagged squares is guaranteed to reveal a bomb). She mentioned some patterns, but you tend to pick several of them up as you play the game, because you start to remember the solutions to problems you already solved; it's not a big deal if you don't start out knowing them. Also nobody wants to read me describing the patterns to explain why they have the solutions they do. It was interesting that she explicitly mentioned some things I tend to assume are obvious because of how logical they are, like leaving regions for later when you run out of simple reasons that this square is a bomb to flag, or this square is a clear space to reveal. More generally, if it's "important" to get right, you don't want to _guess_ at it when you can leave it blank and come back later with a better chance of not needing to guess.
