📖 Zeppelin Book: geni.us/WIcnLY
🎸 Guitar Strings I used today: geni.us/VEaJ
Today we learn how to play Out on the Tiles by Led Zeppelin.
If you're looking for a Zeppelin tune to learn in 20 minutes then Out on the Tiles is your guy; and you'll also be pleased to know that this one is in standard tuning.
As I mention in the video there's not many Zeppelin that don't have a guitar solo. Let's be fair, Zeppelin IV was only around the corner, Jimmy had a lot on his plate, he was probably having a day of rest. 😂
As always, I hope you enjoy my spin on things.
Have fun.

Man, Out on the tiles is such an underrated Zeppelin tune. Out of all the top 10 best Zeppelin riffs or whatever videos, somehow this and The Rover as well don't make it, while this is one of the coolest stuff they have imo. Thanks for the video man, much appreciated!

You’re welcome, I agree. That’s why I wanted to shed some light on it. Maybe IV casts a little bit of a shadow on some of the earlier tunes as it hade HUGE tracks on there.

@@SpedSpedding For as long as I have loved Zeppelin it seems that every riff Page has written always has something unexpected or unique that makes my jaw drop. A perfect example is your lesson on When the Levee Breaks and that FACFAC tuning that allows you to play that power chord on the top two strings where you just wouldn't expect it. When I saw you play that I literally sat there thinking how in the hell did Page ever envision in his brain. Genius.

Great lesson again, I love the way you get the tone and detail how to get the tricky timing down in Zeppelin songs with the upstrokes vs downstrokes, etc. I know its a very challenging song, but I have tried to tackle Since I've Been Loving You a couple times with some mixed success but would love to see your take on that and possible with a tiny bit of theory explanation of what he is doing and why those note choices sound SO good!

@@SpedSpedding So I've been playing this song the past week (thanks to your tutorial I finished learning more than just the main riff) and I can say bending from the 4th fret sounds much better. You have converted me. congratulations 🎉🎸 Keep up the great work dude!

I class myself as a music fan rather than a musician even though I've owned a few guitars over the years. (l wouldn'tknow a minor 5th from a diminished 7th if it kicked me in the head!), Anyhow, Zeppelin was my first love, so really enjoying your clear, concise lessons and can't resist playing along on my battered old Ovation acoustic. You have a genuine talent both for playing and teaching. Thanks and cheers Sped!

Check out Moby Dick from 7-17-1977 in Seattle. The opening is Out on the Tiles. If you watch you can clearly see Page slide up to the A# on the 6th fret of the E string before playing the 4th fret A and D strings with his index finger.

@@SpedSpedding Yeah. Main riff. When you slide into the C# and then hit the F#. I was using my pinky finger to bar across them. It was a lot sloppier. Never occurred to me to slide into the C#.

Very cool lesson, just two minor things I noticed. I'm pretty certain the second note of the main riff is an A, rather than an A#. Then on the descent down, even though it does sound more intuitive the way that you teach it with the half step (B-A-B-A-B-C-B-A), Jimmy Page actually plays B-A-B-A-B-C#-B-A. Even more so than in the original recording this is very clearly audible at the 1977 Bonzo Solo/Out on the Tiles live. Cheers!

Great to see another lesson Sped! It's great to see you giving Led Zeppelin the attention they deserve at the moment... I feel that it's becoming trendy to hate on Led Zeppelin and it's making me sad! You're a light in the darkness! ^a little over dramatic^
