Susan, why wouldn’t anyone enjoy learning or doing scales? To me, as a beginner, I find them fascinating. It’s the easiest way to learn the Notes on the fretboard. Especially if you repeat the notes as you play them.

B/c for 90% of students, they start learning scales without any idea of the how/why to play them, so it's tedious, boring, etc. After falling into that trap for 25 years, (All solos I played were other folks' songs and was pure memorization) about a year ago I had the a-ha moment thanks to Justin and Marty and GuitarSage. And now I do find it fascinating and interesting.

Thank you for this. Im a player that used to play 30 years ago, and I had to quit because my job gave me carpal tunnel syndrome. Now Im playing again and I find that my skills from before were all by ear and wrong. I also cant pick out the things I used to do. So this kind of thing is so appreciated by guys like me. You didnt forget where you cane from like some of the others that are talking to more advanced players. They just go right over our heads. Like the barred chords that you are playing.

I first started playing over 18 years ago. Wow, writing that makes me realize I've wasted nearly 2 decades by not ever bothering to get in a good routine. Anyway- now I want to TRY and start over. From the beginning like I'd yet to pick up a guitar. There is no doubt in my mind, Justin is the right guide for this journey. Now I just have to sort through the lessons and hope to use them in a proper order!

Then i was looking for the Paywall but i couldnt really believe you put all this information and this really nice teaching all for free. Its insane. Whoever watches this and learns make sure to subscribe and like because that is the least we can do for such an inspiring, organized teaching all for free. You are the man !

Taught this to myself by the noodling I constantly do. This and the minor pentatonic. Found it on my own. Don’t know any songs but learned how to fit in with most songs. Find the key and continue noodling. Feels right, especially after a few libations. I teach in an elementary school and tell my students what I learned, “Practice makes better!” Keep at it, you’ll get there... somewhere!

Brilliant, Justin, thanks so much! You are my inspiration. On a side note, with this lesson. What I've found helped me is, once having learned to go forward - low G through to high G - I've then learned to go backward from the original starting point, from the low G, 6th string. BIT BY BIT, I mean, i.e., cover the first couple of strings going forward and then go back again. When I'm confident, then go a bit further and so on. Rather than learning to backward from the top...

I had such a great time with the beginner guitar course that I went all in on practical theory, and I'm so glad I did. I've always been a musical thinker and took really naturally to putting music together, but I didn't understand the relationships or language around music theory. Thanks for putting these concepts into digestible, easy-to-get language. I always wanted to learn music theory, but I really struggled to find resources that could demystify the high-concept stuff without feeling super intimidated. It's so easy to say "I'll never be a composer so it's not a huge deal if I never get it." Thanks for telling my inner critic that I don't need to go to Berklee to learn theory!

Thank you Justin. Profoundly grateful for the manner in which you tutor: always encouraging, not overwhelming. Soloing to me is daunting. Just freeze when I have to solo in time, and rhythm to a backing track. Soloing in swinging eights to any blues 145 backing track came almost naturally to me. Seems swinging eighth rhythm is something I was born with: probably the lullabies to put me off to sleep. Nonetheless, it is the other pop/rock rhythms that get me in a not, even the seemingly simple 4/4 and 3/4 timing.

Everbody has a different home base to start from. How you explore music, what your strenghts and weaknesses are and also, what your "rhythm in life" is... For you, that's quite literal :D explore how far this natural feleing can push you forward while you start off slowly but with care when it comes to the parts you find harder. As you can see here, not only your starting point but also your journey can be an endless exploration of ways to express yourself! www.justinguitar.com/site-map-and-lesson-structure | LievenDV | JustinGuitar Official Guide.

That was super cool! Very well put together demonstration. I've played guitar quite a while but it's been 25 years and then some since having any lessons on theory. And even at that I had never really gotten into putting scales to use in improvising lead guitar. I'm certain I knew many of the scales as a kid. I find myself playing them at times and recognizing the difference in them as it must had been something I was taught... lol! But for the life of me I just don't remember the details of what I'm actually playing. And I never got to the point of applying the scales to lead guitar around a given chord much less a chord progression. I learned to play some great lead parts to some of my favorite songs but I would had never really been able to compose my own lead guitar whatsoever. So this is really interesting and is totally revitalizing a knack to learn.. relearn this theory!
