Extremely helpful! The closeups of teeth positioning solved my problem and saved my teeth from damage. The rest of the tips about glottis, tongue, breathing will take some time to digest and practice. One at a time. Right now I am trying to instinctively find the right way to hold this in my teeth. This is an excellent demo with clear instructions, closeups, great visuals and clear audio. You are the best! Thank you!!

Wow, where do I even begin to thank you all for the jaw harp tricks? I have to admit, I'm loving the way I play it! Just saying "how are you?" through the harp is probably the easiest thing ever. I'll be hunting for words that you can kinda-sorta pronounce while playing for that extra cool effect. I haven't even tried the epiglottis trick, and I don't have an Adam's Apple either - but hey, I'm still having a blast! Another cool thing is, when you play and look at the TV, the whole screen seems to ripple like you're peering through an aquarium with dancing waters. That's a whole lot of fun - thank you! Your inspiration is seriously contagious. I hadn't touched my jaw harp in years, but after listening to some videos my daughter sent me, I just had to dive right back in - and now I'm treating myself to a sweet new MUARO "Lighthouse" Harp by Glazyrin. The Russian Theodor Bastard (yep, that's his real name) has a beautiful one, and there's something so spiritual about creating sounds with a jaw harp. It really messes with the brain in the best way possible. Listening to music is one thing, but actually making it? It's a whole different ball game! Lastly, whoever inspired you planted an amazing seed - the curiosity, the drive to learn, and not just that, but also to teach and share the gift that's been passed on to you. Keep on rockin'!

This is the best video on jaw harp I've seen. It goes in depth and explores more techniques than I learned about after watching many "advanced" videos by other people. It's also organised very well. And most importantly, you talked about safety in the first part, which I feel is neglected by everyone else. All that in 20 minutes. Amazing. Seeing that you have other instruments on your wall and your channel is called "Sound Adventurer", I feel this is the perfect channel for me. Let's see your other videos...

@@SoundAdventurer 1 month later and I found myself going back to this video to see if there are any techniques I forgot about. Turns out I haven't tried using my diaphragm yet (at least consciously). OTOH I have developed some techniques of my own and it's really amazing how much you can do with such a simple instrument. Also, it's not as dangerous to one's teeth as I thought initially, but I still think it's better to be safe than sorry. I've watched your other videos in the meantime and I must say they were very inspiring. Please keep exploring more instruments. I have the notification bell enabled so that I won't miss anything. Revisiting old instruments might be interesting too.

At first I didn't know how to put my mouths onto it. But I tried several times differents ways and finally I succeed! ( only to make a song for the moment it is cool haha). Now I'm trying to use my tongue to make variations but it's kinda hard. I guess practice is the only answer! Thank you for your video, you make things really clear!

In regards to harmonica, I have learned as much as I can without some kind of formal instruction. I saved the link for your recommendation of Ben Hewlett’s class. I hope to get going on that soon. So yes, you are right about the bug lol. Take care!

How exactly do you change pitch or notes while playing the jaw harp? I’m also having a little trouble getting a fuller sound and having it sound louder
@SoundAdventurer
@SoundAdventurer 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jakob! Thanks for your comment. A couple things you can try: While playing the jaw harp, you can't really change the fundamental pitch while playing, you can only change the harmonics. I talk about how to do this in my other video, here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oN15ZZN2zp2ap4E.html Second: As far as getting a fuller sound, it really depends on a few things 1. Are you forming a proper seal around the inner frame of the jaw harp with your lips? If you have any gaps that can impact your sound fullness resulting in not as full of a sound 2. Is your mouth too far open? Experimenting with your mouth shape can really impact how much sound projects. 3. Are you using your breath and diaphragm to push and pull in the air? Your diaphragm provides most of the volume with the jaw harp with proper timing 4. Perhaps you have the snoopy harp or the grover harp. I noticed that these harps it's MUCH harder to get good volume. The gaps in these harps are far too wide resulting in a thin sound. I recommend a harp that has a fuller sound and talk about things to look for in harps here in my other video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jpthY9SkqZebdZ8.html

Thank you so much for the tutorial. I have a jaw harp that I bought a few years ago, but I was never able to get a really resonant tone like yours. I am thinking that maybe I have the wrong jaw harp. Maybe mine is just a piece of garbage and doesn't work right. Do you have one your recommend? Come to think of it, I believe I bought the Snoopy one. I saw a video recently where someone mentioned that the Snoopy one is not good.

My Gramma taught me to play by putting your lips over your teeth. (Pretend your an older person with no teeth that's gumming) and insert harp. May not be correct but works for me and no worries of striking teeth at all. Think sound is also comparable also.

Yeah, although you will definitely feel the vibrations of the instrument, there should not be vibration that pounds against your teeth. There should be enough pressure so there is no clattering.
